My 2 Years of Experience as a Google Local Guide In Egypt

I can’t express how grateful I was to join The Local Guide Program, I started this journey back there in Oct 2020, I came across the program by chance when I saw a random post on Facebook talking about the Local Guide program and its kind of cool to share your photos and reviews of each place you visit, I signed up, also joined connect and from that moment the journey started, I read a lot of stories, adventures and wonderful moments of fellow local guides sharing their experience and helping the community around them to get known on Google maps.

I started with tourist sights in my country, Egypt. I have always liked to memorize every trip I take with photos of what I see around me, street photography, and nature most of what I like and I can see the beauty of my pictures when I get credit from friends that I take wonderful pictures, your phone is not that good to produce that beauty, I always respond with our eyes take the photo before phones, so if you see the beauty around you, your photos will be magnificent.

I enjoyed visiting stores, restaurants, cafes, and different categories to add their photos; interior and exterior ones. I have always created targets in front of me of how many places I will visit and explore, sometimes it helps me to continue my work. I have added my first target as 100 places then it moved to 1000 and in the future, the number will grow for sure.

When I look back from time to time to review my work, I always wonder did I visit all those places wow it’s a lot, but when u divide it into 2-3 places per week it’s normal that’s why small steps over time make a huge difference.

I always believe that helping places around us to get known on Google Maps is very important, as we are living in the digital era, with the help of what we add we provide help for the next generations. Not all countries are the same on Google Maps but with every contribution we make a difference no matter where you live.

Our photos, Reviews, and every action we take on Google Maps help people around us to make wise decisions before visiting that place according to their needs. Every tourist sight gets known on Google Maps helps a lot of travelers also to know which sights and scenes to see in that place.

I enjoyed reading your 2-year story @Mo_TravelleerX and I love the photos, very sharp, clear and focused. Your story shows a side of Egypt that many of us would not have seen or even known about.

@Mo_TravelleerX

Ich hingegen liebe es die Natur möglichst ohne Menschen festzuhalten.

So hat Jede/r seinen eingenen Sinn für die Schönheit eines Momentes

I don’t imagine that this will be an issue for you right now @Mo_TravelleerX , however, please be aware that Local Guides are restricted to uploading 1,500 images overall on Connect. On this, the Tips for Uploading Images to Connect to Stay Within Limit post by Traci would be a good read.

@AdamGT Thanks for your concern, Yeah I think i read about that limit before

This is awesome, @Mo_TravelleerX .You’ve captured the essence of what a Local Guide is supposed to be. All of these photos of amazing places, but not a single one that someone would know about from a history class about Egypt.

I had no idea there was so much green grass and plants, and rich blue waters - except for your picture of Dahab, which still got me to stop and examine for a while. Great share, thank you.

@JustJake I try my best whenever I can, There are more places in Egypt with marvelous views and water, I would recommend Dahab and Marsa Matruh for the best blue water, I wish had enough funds and time to travel around Egypt to take the unique photos   I always believe in this “I really believe there are things nobody would see if I didn’t photograph them.” I have full albums of Every place I visit, Taking pictures from different angles.

Maybe in the next couple of years, I will do that and share more unique places in Egypt.

WOW! Your post is so well explained @Mo_TravelleerX reading this makes me feel like I am in the streets of your country , like are this places close to the capital city of Egypt, like this Fish market in Portsaid, you know am a fish lover, and this would be the first place I would want to go have some lunch :star_struck: .all along I didn’t knew you are my neighbor from the north  , you know neighbors can visit each other, and knowing this places in advance is absolutely the best thing we can do as local guides. I love this beautiful pictures of yours. And the last picture is absolutely my best pic,“Masjid (المجمع الاسلامى ) located in Port Fouad, Egypt” thanks again for sharing with us.

@Zuhralc Thanks for your words   , we have like 27 cities in Egypt and each one is unique with something, You can search with each city name to know which places to visit in this city, Yeah Portsaid city is an amazing one, it’s very popular with the fish market it’s very big and crowded on weekends, the experience itself is amazing while you pick up your own fishes and there are places to cook them for you with fee price, They have tables everywhere to sit and eat with your family.

Masjid (المجمع الاسلامى ) located in Port Fouad and you can ride Ferry from Portsaid to go there, The mosque’s Architecture is a masterpiece and it’s will be the first thing to see when you get off the ferry.

I would recommend cities like Dahab which have a place called Blue Hole ( 2nd best diving place in the world), Marsa Matruh which has unique blue water beaches, Ras El Bar ( it’s where the Nile Water cross with The Sea, That is why this town has 2 kinds of beaches; river beaches and Sea beaches, Portsaid, Sharm El Shiekh ( already well known as tourist attraction place ), Hurghada ( already well known as tourist attraction place ), each of them got beaches, and places to explore. And of course Cairo the capital city contains its own unique places and museums. Let’s not forget Luxor and Aswan if you are a big fan of Egyptian Monuments.
