I know this might be so out of topic to what everyone might be writing up relating to coffee or dessert at a very picturesque place or French fries or a very romantic and upscale restaurant hobnobbed by celebrities and swish setters but I thought of using this space to write about something that’s the need of the hour and I really care about myself personally.
This is the story of a van named Roti Bank, for the uninitiated Roti is an Indian flat bread which is a staple here in most of the states. So what Roti Bank does is that it collects left over food from restaurants and serves it to the homeless and needy people. It is the vision of a high profile policeman whose basic agenda is to eliminate hunger, malnutrition and food wastage. What’s more interesting is that they don’t collect food that was stored overnight. Roti Bank has a dedicated helpline number where they can be reached at and their vans go to collect the food and redistribute it ASAP so as the food quality remains intact and no spoilt or inedible food is delivered just for the namesake.
These guys have clocked an amazing 10,000 hours of volunteering and have served 450,000 meals so far and this is just the story of a small NGO from Mumbai out of all the cities of India amongst all the countries of the world. The figures in itself show the amount of food wastage happening around us and forget not this is just the tip of the iceberg. I have especially written this post because I deeply care about solving the problem of food wastage and would like Google Maps to inculcate this in their app as it is present in almost every country and would go a long way in solving one of the major issues faced by us in recent times.
