Multicultural Melbourne

I recently returned from a trip to Melbourne and, boy, did I take a lot of photos of food!

Melbourne is a multicultural city and one of the greatest impacts has been on the food culture.

You can get everything from cod roe crossiants to dairy free and vegan sorbets, peanut butter and jelly cruffins, to pulled pork pizzas, matcha, tumeric & white chocolate cookies to watermelon and lychee martinis, black crossiants to sweet potato and tarragon cannelloni.

One of my favourites would have to be the red rice egg hoppers with prawn and pork curry which our family prepared. Simply delicious.

What is your favourite dish from your city? I’d love to know in the comments below.

@JustineE Those plates look yummy. For me, I like basil dish, pork basil, chicken basil, shrimp basil, etc. Here is a plate with basil I really like.

Have you ever tried basil dish?

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Please I need explanation to my above questions.

Hi @Ant_Bad_Yogi Thanks for sharing your dish. I do like basil, especially in Thai dishes. Basil chicken or beef is also a favourite of mine. The dish pictured in my collage with basil is Pad Thai.

Hi @Austinelewex ,

Thanks for your questions. The fifth dish in the first collage is strawberry cream custard crossiants. I have no idea how they made them that colour- perhaps food colouring? These were in a Japanese Style bakery which also had salted cod roe crossiants.

I called Melbourne a multicultural city because people from so many different countries and cultures reside there. People come from all over Asia, Europe and the Americas as well as Africa. Often they bring with them wonderful recipes and ingredients which are not common in Australia. Thus our culture is enriched by their culture and heritage - especially our food culture.

@Austinelewex 555 That is cucumber. :slightly_smiling_face:

@JustineE I see. If you like Thai food, you should visit us. Real Pad Thai doesn’t have basil in it. :slightly_smiling_face: Come come.
