Before you get me wrong, I don’t mean Muhammad Ali Clay, the great American boxer! I mean Muhammad Ali Pasha, the ruler of Egypt in the early 19th century and the founder of modern Egypt, as history tells us.
One of the great and most popular monuments of Muhammad Ali is his mosque inside the Citadel of Salah al-Din in Cairo. The mosque took around 18 years to be complete from 1830 to 1848.
When Muhammad Ali Pasha died in 1849, he was buried inside of his mosque and you’ll be able to see his tomb room (from the outside for it’s closed) when you visit the mosque!
