MTB Riding Girraween National Park, Australia

There are a few South East Queensland MTB rides that we do over an over (or wish we could!). The Mount Norman Bike Loop in Girraween National Park is one of them. We start at the Day Use area, or more often overnight camp at the nearby Bald Rock Creek camping area. This is a National Park so bookings required for overnight stays, check out the Queensland Government web page.

Overnight camping at Bald Rock Camp Ground, Girraween.

The ride heads east along Pyramids Road, then south along Mount Norman Road. Check out Dr Roberts Waterhole, and Underground Creek along the way.

Additional walking tracks are well signed, with 4WD parking.

Rock formations to explore

Small creek crossing

Ride until you reach the Mount Norman Day Use area, it is well signed.

Mount Norman day use area and start of shared walking trail

From here ride the shared use Mount Norman walking track, it is wide, but keep an eye out for hikers. This is the best part of the ride, great bush trails, mountain views, huge boulders, creek crossings… really who could ask for more?

There are many balancing granite rocks

Shared use path

At this point the trail is heading back to Pyramids Road and eventually the Girraween Day Use area and toilets, showers and water.

Rocky creek crossing

The loop is about 2 1/2 hours if ridden at an enjoyable pace, around 30k. There are some steep sections and fast trails, for me it is the scenery that really makes this one of my favourite rides.

I love this landscape

What a beautiful place to ride @Zeg thanks for sharing it with us. How far do you ride each day when you go out on your MTB?

Paul

Thank you Paul.

I ride a FatBike, so 30K is definitely enough, those wide wheels take a bit of pushing. We are isolating in Brisbane at the moment so rides have been limited to a nearby forest reserve.

Stay well. Z
