I pretty enjoyed the trip around Finland in a motor vehicle, so here I am bringing some summary for other interested travelers how to enjoy the trip as well!
We started in Lahti from where we rented recreational vehicle (so-called RV). The best to start tour are ski jumps where you can park for free.
Next stop is the “coast” area and city center. It’s surprisingly really nice to walk there despite rumors about the city itself.
Another stop which I can fully recommend is the city of Kotka in a coastal area in the south. First, we stay a night near to historical Savukoski Bridge from there is just a few steps ruin of old fortress in the forest.
Kotka is a surprisingly beautiful city! You can’t miss the waterfall and the surrounding park where we made a small picnic. Must see is also Maritime museum, exposition is interesting for everyone + the building allows you to do small sunbathing on the roof.
We felt a bit tired so we visited the swimming pool Katariina which is no special, but the entrance fee is low and sauna facilities are included for visitors. Nice day of relaxing!Last but not least was top in the city of Kouvola. I really can’t recommend visiting the city because there is literally nothing to see.
Rumors in Finland says that Kouvola is second Pripyat, which I finally found accurate.
Whatever you are in Kouvola, you have chance to visit the amusement park of Tykkimäki, since there are not that many of those in Finland.
We didn’t want to ruin our day by the wrong choice of sightseeing place so we hop on the car and moved to Verla mill museum which is one of the most beautiful locations which I ever visited in the country of thousand lakes. The area is chilly, but enough informative surrounded by industrial architecture. Since we had motor-home we made a meal and eat on the river pier.
Our trip ends again in Lahti, where we were returning our RV. I can fully recommend you to make a similar trip. Public renting spots are usually really on the north of the country but one practical for you is nearby Vantaa airport and mentioned locations are still easily reachable.
