Motivations of a top local guide - Video interview

Hi all,

Harrisson Keely @hkeely is back at it with the video version of my interview about the local guides program and Google Maps:

@AdamGT 's leaderboard are to be credited for their original inspiration.

I recently stopped by Google’s HQ, so I couldn’t resist taking a picture:

Herve Andrieu facing the famous Google Cloud where all Google Maps pictures are stored

Enjoy!

This is truly amazing. Please watch this video. @Herve_Andrieu holds the highest degree of dedication.

I need to take off my hat and congratulate his huge efforts.

Also, I love his clear-cut criticism of edits and new places not getting approved. It is truly

outrageous when well-researched edits and additions get rejected in 1 second for no good reason.

Come on, Google!

All the best
Morten

Thank you so much for giving me something really fun to watch and listen to over my morning coffee @Herve_Andrieu and of course @hkeely After seeing the way you move on that unicycle Herve, all I can say is that you are “crazy” but truly amazing!!! I mean 30 mph on one wheel is crazy but 2000 photos in one day well that’s just amazing dedication! A Local Guide on 1 wheel lol. By the way you mentioned that you wore out your camera but I wondered have you ever worn out the tire of your unicycle?

Like so many of us, I can certainly see that you are motivated by numbers and the thrill of the chase Herve and I’m really pleased to hear you say that the leaderboards were your original inspiration and you’ve been on the leaderboards from their very beginning.

Once again well done Hereve and Harrison, an inspirational story.

ps: Yes, the Google couldn’t verify your (bona fide) edit is a real problem and sometime ago I myself raised this directly through the appropriate channels so my hope is that something will be done about this.

pps: Your van make-over looks amazing Herve and I can’t wait to hear about your first van trip!

Thanks @AdamGT !

The unicycle tires last about 2,000~3,000 miles, so there were quite a few changes.

There is space for my extra tubes and spare tires in the van.

Here is an actual picture of the van on my last test trip to Orlando:

I’m a bit delayed on reading this but amazing. I really enjoyed reading the article as well that @hkeely posted. It was interesting to see how you use your unicycle to take photos more efficiently. I loved hearing you passion shine through, and I can relate to the obsession to get more photos. One time, I was building out content for local parks and I visited 15 parks total in a weekend and my head was hurting by the end of it but it felt so nice to have gotten photos and videos added.

So happy you got celebrated for your all your achievements. Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. :couple_with_heart_woman_man:
