Motel 6 - for a Cozy and Inexpensive Stay in Atlanta

During my visit to Atlanta in June 2023 I stayed at the Motel 6

My first preference are hostels though most of those in Atlanta were located far away from downtown and unreachable by metro. So, traveling to-and-fro was not an economical option. Finding a motel right in the middle of downtown Atlanta came as a blessing.

A motel typically means a motor hotel and is a regular hotel designed to cater to the needs of motorists, often situated near major roads or along popular routes. For me these are cheap and no-frills hotels.

But Motel 6 was an exception. It was located in downtown Atlanta and the very close to the PeachTree station on the Marta Metro that connected it directly to the Atlanta airport. I couldn’t have asked for more…!

There was a huge parking in front of the model that was accessible directly from the main street.

The parking itself had several spots reserved for the differently abled :wheelchair:

And if that was not enough there was also a large open public paid parking in the adjacent block.

This is the small front desk of Motel6 and the attendants typically stay indoors and show up only when requested.

I found that the service was OKish and they also refused to let me keep my luggage in the storage after checkout since I did not want to carry it over to the Coca Cola World.

The Motel 6 had both an elevator which was accessible but sluggish and old-fashioned and also a staircase that I prefer over a lift.

The only common facility in the entire motel was an ice cube vending machine that was free.

The room had a comfortable bed, though the accessories like the AC, side table and the telephone were from the 90s era.

The room also had all amenities like a microwave, TV, iron with its table, dust bin, chair, main table, and also a mini fridge.

The washroom was also clean and furnished with various soaps, shampoos and a lot of towels in various sizes.

The view outside the room was that of a very dull and lackluster Hilton that I haven’t seen anywhere else in the US.

Not very far from the motel were top ranked food joints like the Hooters and Hard Rock Cafe.

And only a couple of blocks away were rent-a-bike and also the streets of Atlanta have these unique maps located at prominent places.

I chose Motel 6 since it was located in the downtown, very close the Coca Cola Musem and more importantly the Marta metro station.

At Model6, I noted that:

:wheelchair: The frontside parking was accessible from the main street.

:wheelchair: The main entrance of the motel is accessible for a wheelchair.

:wheelchair: The front desk was accessible.

:wheelchair: The elevator was accessible.

:wheelchair: The rooms were accessible too.

Well selection of the property, Motel 6 looks very logical to your need; after all, we use limited time in the hotel/motels.

The tarring of the public parking looks quite bad?

Well, I too have noticed such things, but almost a decade back.

Thanks for sharing your own experience in detail.

With warm regards, dear @TusharSuradkar Ji.

Very good observation @TravellerG

In fact, the footpath in the second photo is also not in good shape with too many random pits.

This is the same story in many other places in Atlanta.

Also agree with your opening comment :+1: I remember staying in the hotel room typically for 6-8 hrs only.

I didn’t travel too much to out Pakistan in some recent years except Turkiye, but whenever I travel and choose accomodation, I always love to live near Metro station, or any busy bus stop. And by your post, many of Local Guides including me got great knowledge that what should we do when we will be in Atlanta.

Thanks for sharing @TusharSuradkar Bhai

Yes, dear friend @TusharSuradkar …

A decent place to sleep & hygienic toilet for the morning duties…

As explorers, rest of the time we will be out.

For most of the Photoshoots, I with my team usually go out by, say 8 am to get back by 8 pm… Just sharing my experience…

Thanks for your valuable companionship…

Hi there @TusharSuradkar well this is really something unique and very informative i learn more about motels.

When I was in USA I was scared to booked a motel as was told by my local friends it’s not safe …I would like to know and clear my doubts on my next trip.

Did any one recommended you or did you went through Google reviews?

I was in Atlanta and had no choice to booked an Airbnb after seeing the hotel price was above the sea level.

I was very low confident about staying alone in the whole condo by myself as i dint knew so much about the area and the neighborhood but it was really not that scary. It went well.

Thank you dear @Rohan10 for the encouraging comments  I will try to share more in the future :+1:

Hi @Pratik_89

I had no idea about this scary stuff about motels.

I look at them as no-frills hotels with special attention to easy parking for cars in the front instead of an underground parking garage.

In fact, I did not even search for motels - it turns out that this one was the most economical that was also close to the top tourist places in downtown Atlanta.

Is AirBnb same as hostel?

My first preference are hostels for the huge number of facilities and the ‘lively’ atmosphere out there compared to a ghostly hotel.
