Joy is the real reward of traveling. Raisen Fort is such destination and the Mosque located within the Baradari complex is fascinating attraction.
This mosque is built of sandstone and is a unique example of workmanship and elegant Islamic Architecture. It was also built by the Malwa Sultan in 1485 AD within the Baradari complex, as the Sultan was a religious man but was never a victim of bigotry or religious hysteria.
There is a huge courtyard in front of the mosque and a deep pool of water on which crowds of tourists remain. No one knows from where the water comes in this tank. This tank is also a living example of ancient water conservation and Water harvesting system.
It’s a rectangular structure built on a raised platform. Main prayer Hall can be accessed through five rectangular grand ways. Roof is supported by stone pillars, which are having decorated base and ornate pillar capitals which are horizontally projected on which exposed stone beams are fixed and slab is covered by stone. The stone pillars on the side of the courtyard of this mosque are adorned with extremely attractive stone brackets, which support the cantilever to withstand the weight of stone overhang, which are provided for the protection from the rain water. Prayer Hall is having decorated central Mihrab and magnificent stone’s member from where the sermon is delivered to the devotees on Fridays. Above the central Mihrab one stone is having inscription in Arabic. Western Wall is having symmetrical decorated arches and niches. Roof top is having two hemispherical domes adorned with pinnacles. It’s having decorated arched stones parapet having gaps to reduce the wind pressure. Exterior walls are flat and Central Mihrab portion is projected from the ground level to the roof level. All three sides having coloured stone tiles and three decorated Corniche one just below the the parapet arches. Central Mihrab outer is having additional Corniche and roof top of this part is significant.
Raisen fort is perfect visiting site where one can see the glimpse of 12th century’s secular architecture and 15th century’s Islamic architecture in a single glance. It’s a major attraction among the history buffs, art and architecture, culture and heritage lovers. Now for prayers it’s closed and having channel shutters. Visitors can easily see the whole interior except the ceiling of domes.
