In the late 2000’s social media started gaining popularity. User generated content became an advent with the integration of the internet 2.0 bringing a whole world of change in the communication industry. As apps started innovating, and new platforms starting appearing, users started getting overwhelmed with always jumping to the next popular thing. Some users, or recently referred as creators, even turned their content creation into a more sustainable source of income shifting their focus mostly on these apps.
As popularity grew, people were more depended on popular social media outlets such as Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook to be updated on current affairs, follow the latest trends and interact their their newly-found idols. With the rapid speed social media was growing, it became harder to properly navigate and this fueled frustration. Schools were not able to keep up with the rapid changes, neither were companies, creators and even media consumers with the introduction to the next big thing.
Creators being left bottom of the chain, began to conglomerate to build support-groups, offer help to one another, such as sharing knowledge and even co-produce.
Some Montrealers came together to create an institution to become the foundation to their newly-found community of content creators. In 2018, a place called Lounge 4284 emerged from within the co-working space Halte 24-7 and their collaboration with local creator community members; its now fully managed by multiple communities portraying the digital industry, in counting Creator HQ from many others.
