Another monthlytopic is here. I missed last month’s so am happy I contribute this month !!! Before I continue,I must acknowledge @TonyAlexander for his post on Fruit-power-Watermelon . I must say I like the difference shapes and presentations of watermelon on his post.
Feels good to be back to Lagos/Nigeria again. Life here is fairly simple and affordable. Thinking of this month’s topic, I have been wondering what fruit I can contribute. Then I came across this street vendor today. The display of these slices of watermelon attracted me immediately and I was compelled to get one slice of these watermelon on display. It was so juicy!!! You wouldn’t like to know how much it cost would you? 25 american cents(100 naira) approximately. These vendors move on wheel barrows from street to street and hawk their fruits.
I made some research on it and found out that, watermelon is not just nutritious or juicy as a fruit but also has some medicinal value. Among other ones;
Watermelon is the 12th healthiest fruit in the world. It contains vitamin A & C. Vitamin A is beneficial for the skin.
It helps you hydrate. It’s one of the best fruit you can enjoy on a very hot summer day or in the tropical weather.
It improve the heart health.
It lowers inflammation and oxidative stress. I found out in particular that if consumed with the seeds it helps prostrate cancer patients(that goes to the men especially)
It can cause overhydration if eaten out of proportion.
It should not be consumed at or before bedtime as it increases the rate of urinal flow and can upset your sleep.
Many thanks to @HiroyukiTakisawa for this initiative. They motivate us to keep active on connect. This is my contribution to the #monthlytopic of December 2020-fruit power. The photos are not great but feel free to use it for the summary at the end of the month or for other relevant purposes necessary. Hope you like the post and can accept it for the purpose which it’s meant for.
In my virtual meet-up Taste of Summer fruit I presented a segment on Pineapple, do you remember @SholaIB Actually Pineapple is one of my favorite fruits. I was thinking about it this evening to write for this month’s topic. Though I changed my mind later. Anyway, you presented pineapple very nicely. I love your presentation along with the watermelon. Thanks for sharing this nice post with us here.
The price of watermelon here is pretty much higher, you can get it from $1-2. I enjoy eating organic watermelon a lot. Even when I am sick and lose my appetite, I never lose appetite for watermelon and fruits
Thank you for sharing this with us here on connect.
I remember that meet up very clearly in my mind. I enjoyed it thanks. I was thinking of you and that meetup as I wrote that post so am happy you reminded me as well. Will check out your post later.
Thank you for the photo of the pineapple I like it. Good to have you back full time on connect again.
Thank you for looking up my post, I am happy you like it.
Yes it’s quite cheap here maybe because it comes from the North to Lagos in larger quantities. I see many of these vendors around as perhaps it’s in season.
Wow watermelon it’s yummy & juicy fruit . It has water contain which reduce weight also. Dr say have a bowl of watermelon before 1 hour of lunch then we intended to eat less food. In summer you get for 70-80 rs kg. Now in winter we getting 38 rs -45 rs per piece.
Our granny used to say we should eat in rainy or winters watermelon because it’s give us coolness due which in this season we can get cold. If u still want to eat she used say add black salt & black pepper it balance the coolness of the fruit.
Awesome photo! Thank you for sharing, @SholaIB . It also looks so tasty
I didn’t know those demerits. Thank you for letting know it. As I LOVE fruit, sometimes I have eaten too much. I’ll be careful from now on.
Thank you for viewing the post and for asking that question.
It is seasonal and it comes in bulk from the North of Nigeria. Infact this is the season now!!! It becomes rare and more expensive when it’s out of season.
