Month of May and May-flowers; driving through NH 17 in Kannur

Month of May and May-flowers; driving through NH 17 in Kannur

This is my story of beautiful May-flowers or Gulmohar (Delonix Regia) in the month of May.

And a drive in our car through NATIONAL HIGHWAY 17 in Kannur, a district in Kerala, God’s Own country, in India…

NH17 - NH 17 and NH 47 together have been renamed as NH 66

let us see what NH17 looks like - This road passes through Panvel, Mahad, Panaji, Karwar, Mangalore, Kannur, Kozhikode, Feroke, Kuttipuram, Pudu and Ponnani before joining with NH 47 at Edapally in Kochi.

NH 17 road traverses 482 km in Maharashtra, 139 km in Goa, 280 km in Karnataka and 368 km in Kerala. NH 17 has a length of 1269 km in total.

If this National Highway of India has been numbered at 17 or recently as NH 66, it means there are other roads with other numbers, yes, you are right –

The National Highways network of India is a network of trunk roads that is owned by the government. In India, National Highways are at-grade roads, whereas Expressways are controlled-access highways (mostly six-lane or above) where entrance and exit is controlled by the use of slip-roads. The at-grade national highways do not have shoulder lanes.

India has 131,326 km (81,602 mi) of National Highways (NH) connecting all the major cities and state capitals as of March 2018.

National Highways comprise 2.7% of India’s total road network, but carry about 40% of road traffic.

The longest National Highway is NH 44, which runs between Srinagar in J&K and Kanyakumari in Tamil nadu covering a distance of 2,369 km. The shortest National Highway is NH966B, which spans 6 km to the Ernakulam-Kochi.

That is about NATIONAL HIGHWAYS in India.

And the GULMOHAR FLOWERS in May…something similar to the Cherry Blossoms in Japan that make it look Nature is holding a huge umbrella of pink over the whole country, For us in India, it is orange blossoms, both in the sky and on the ground. Love it. Always.
