Chinese Traveller Hiuen Tsang who studied in Nalanda for two years and visited Rajgir, Nalanda, Vaishali, Kapilavasthu, Sarnath, Patliputra etc. His detailed travelogue and descriptions about the layout especially of Nalanda helped the archaeologists to rediscover the extincted Nalanda Mahavihara a Buddhist heritage.
Monastery which is allotted No.6 has the significant evidence that it was built on the ruins of previous Monastery. It has two courts which are paved with flat bricks and are at different levels. Which have verandahs and residential chambers for the students all around the court. According to Archaeological Survey of India this Monastery have 32 Chambers at each level, a well and West facing entrance.
The notable feature is that it has two shrines in the lower courtyard but only one in the upper. It also have a feature of interest is that it has two sets of double ovens in the upper courtyard which might have been used for community cooking or used for some practical demonstrations to the students.
