I am from South Africa and need some travel advise. In March I am traveling to Prague, Bratislava, Vienna, Salzburg and Budapest. I was wondering how to get a sim card with Data on in these 4 Countries? Is there a service provider that covers all these countries or do I need to buy a sim card each time? Also, how much, plus-minus, do you pay for a GB of data in the respective countries?
In my experiences, no ID has ever been needed to purchase a SIM card and I like to get them at the airport of the country I arrive in. That way my phone is ready to go right away upon entry. It is recommended that you buy it in the country you visit and not beforehand so you can ensure that actually works.
Well, maybe in Czechia you do not need an ID to get a prepaid sim card, here, in Hungary, you do. This is rather new (started about half a year ago). True however that roaming among EU countries is free now so it does not matter where you buy the sim card, you can use it elsewhere, too.
From what I know there should be no need for most people to buy a sim card for another country as most providers around the world allow you to purchase roaming packs for other area codes.
I know here in New Zealand, we can go to our providers and purchase roaming packs.
FYI = I did this when I went to the US for 2 weeks , only cost me $20 a week.
