Mission 'LifeStyle for Environment'

Namaste,

We all know what has been happening around us.

We are all facing disastrous consequences such as Climate Change & Global Warming (due to rising Green House Gas Emissions), Rising sea levels, melting of glaciers, and whatnot.

So now, Inter-governmental steps are being taken toward Sustainable Development.

Environmental degradation and climate change are global phenomena where actions in one part of the world impact ecosystems and populations across the globe. Estimates suggest that if requisite action is not taken against the changing environment, approximately 3 billion people globally could experience chronic water scarcity. The global economy could lose up to 18% of GDP by 2050.

Over the last two decades, several macro measures have been implemented globally to address environmental degradation and climate change, including policy reforms, economic incentives, and regulations. Despite their enormous potential, actions required at the level of individuals, communities, and institutions have received limited attention.

Changing individual and community behavior alone can significantly dent the environmental and climate crises. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), if one billion people out of the global population of eight billion adopt environment-friendly behaviors in their daily lives, global carbon emissions could drop by approximately 20 percent.

In this context, the concept of ‘Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE)’ was introduced by Prime Minister of India; Narendra Modi at COP26 in Glasgow on 1st November 2021, calling upon the global community of individuals and institutions to drive LiFE as an international mass movement towards “mindful and deliberate utilization, instead of mindless and destructive consumption” to protect and preserve the environment.

In Agra, there is a group (Agra Elite Cyclists) of which I’m a part. We do rides on bicycles; generally daily short rides(up to 30-40 km) but on weekends we do long rides(up to 100km).

So recently on 14th May 2023, Uttar Pradesh Forest Department in collaboration with Agra Elite Cyclists organized a Bicycle Rally at Keetham Bird Sanctuary to Raise Awareness about Sustainable Lifestyle.

We were about 117 cyclists, embarked on a ride at 04:45 AM following the route (Pratappura Crossing to Keetham Lake) covered 25Km and reached Keetham Lake i.e. Sur Sarovar Bird Sanctuary

After reaching, Police officers welcomed us, and took some photographs.

Here are some of the photographs:

and then we headed back to our home. overall it was a fun and easy ride,

Now tomorrow(21 May 2023) too, we all are going on a weekend ride to Raja Bhoj Ki Haveli

That’s it, thanks for reading till here,

I request everyone who is reading to adapt their lifestyle concerning current environmental vulnerability.

Limit the use of your personal vehicle, and bring a Cycle into your lifestyle for the daily short commute and workout.

Thank you!

Hi @ANKIT_SHARMA

Thanks for sharing your report.

I like that you are combining bikes and environmental efforts.

In my city of Copenhagen, bikes have become the main mode of transportation. 60% of travel to and from work and school is done on bicycles. So there is nothing elite about bicycles here. Instead, cycling is what most people do every day. This is mainly due to how the Municipality made a dedicated effort over almost 60 years to change the infrastructure to make using bicycles more safe and faster than most other means of transportation. It is fantastic for avoiding air pollution and even the car owners know that if all the bikers would switch to cars everyone would be stuck in traffic.

I like your definition of short trips: 30-40 km. Such trips are considered long trips in my book

All the best

Morten

Very interesting post, my dear @ANKIT_SHARMA ,

Of course, the climate change challenge is becoming a global issue… No doubt… We all have to stand for this cause.

And cycling as a means of support is prominent in many cities and towns…

Good & contextual photos…

Did the girl cycle along with you all?

The police officer looks to be a smart guy…

Best regards

Hello, my dear friend @MortenCopenhagen ,

“60% of travel to and from work and school is done on bicycles” - ohh… That is very interesting information…

Even now, here schools are not covered by cycle.

But, electric vehicles are becoming very popular.
