Over time, I’ve been privileged to meet so many incredible local guides and some here on Connect. Some of them made Connect extra lively—especially during the COVID-19 lockdown when we all had more time to share, interact, and learn from each other through series of meetups.
But lately, I’ve noticed that a few of those familiar faces seem to have gone quiet. I truly hope they are all doing very well wherever they are.
I’ll tag a few I can still remember by their Connect handles—just in case they pop up here again.
Thank you @MrFreez for the mention.
Yes, I’ve been away from here on Connect for a long time. However, I still contribute to Google Maps on a daily basis.
I really wish that the Google Local Guides Team can have another Connect Live either in Lagos or Abuja.
Hello @MrFreez
Of course there are lots of them I can tag right now. @Austinelewex @OSAMA1 @OssianLore @SamsonS @Zino
The list goes on. These people were quite active especially during the Lockdown days. We miss them on connect. Thank you for this post.
Thank you @SholaIB , you touch my heart remembering me This is one of the happiest and friendliest little corners on the internet, I’m glad to have found you all
See who I pulled over. Good to know you are doing great.
I have had the discusion of having a google local guides event in Nigeria recently with both @EmekaUlor@SholaIB and @Sagir
We hope to see this come to light soon. Ah yes @U-RoyEmeka too and Samson, I miss them
As I’ve stated before, my main activity is as a mapper, and I’ve been using Google Maps for the past eight years. And this activity will continue. I work tirelessly on compiling maps to help foreign tourists understand deeper aspects of Japanese culture that have previously remained a mystery. If they saw my review, they would know that it wasn’t just a rare glimpse into a different culture.
In the past few years, I’ve had to make personal commitments, so my visits to Connect have been less frequent, but I expect the situation will thaw soon!
Thanks for tagging me, @Sagir bhai. It’s been a long time and I really miss many of my wonderful Local Guides friends with whom I connected over the years but the friendship will stay strong.
Very good to hear from you and I appreciate the tag! I also remember Salmaan too.
Recently I’ve started getting active in Google Maps, writing reviews again, but I still get frustrated when I make edits that are immediately not accepted. Especially when there is mounting evidence (i.e. with a photo) or their social medias saying that they’re actually closed down or temporarily closed.
Humanity over false automatic rejections, any day.
@MrFreez@SanyaOdare@EmekaUlor - I agree during the Pandemic we were all indoors and was a lot more on Connect than many of us are now.
It was great to see so many familiar Local Guides (names) from the past. I, too, wonder how they are doing since many of them were on Connect in the very beginning all day, every day, but not so much now.
This is amazing @MrFreez. I can’t think of any names to tag right now. You guys listed a lot that I never knew. In my early days on Maps, I wasn’t on Connect as much.
But this isn’t unusual. On every online forum I’ve been involved in, some names disappear after a while, and a few stick around for a long time.
