Not long after I added several missing places (this photo shows a few), they started to populate on Google Maps. It was so exciting to witness. But when I go in there, to check my photos and review, they are now missing? Anyone know what’s going on? I’d like to add these locations to a list I’m trying to create, but with nothing to click on, I don’t know how. Should I give it more time, or resubmit the missing places?
On a related note, there’s one similar place in particular, that I have added multiple times, but I have yet to receive a confirmation email that it is being published. I’m not sure what the problem is, but I’ve tried to resubmit it a number of times, changing things or photos around a little.
@MortenCopenhagen Yes, I’ve just tried that on two of the missing places that have been added. It’s weird, they were showing up yesterday. I received an email from google, saying they were published, then I was able to view them from google maps. Now, today, they are all gone.
Trails are represented on the map as lines, just like roads, railways and creeks. In fact, to the system a trail is just a road with vehicular and perhaps bicycle restrictions. Trails must be lines in order for Navigation to be able to route people along them.
This is why when you add the feature you would not able to find the category “Trail” nor “Trailhead” when you added the POIs. And it is also the reason that they would have been removed when discovered.
To add a trail that will remain, please choose the option within Send Feedback to add a road. When doing so, it is fine a trail has no name; just leave it blank if there is no name rather than adding a description. In the field to add more notes you can mention any bicycle or vehicle descriptions, whether the trail is gravel, dirt, asphalt, etc. and if it is in poor condition. If you make the submission via the Android app then you can draw in the trail.
At this time only the Android app has the drawing capabilities. IOS and browser versions allow you to place a marker in the middle of the trail to indicate where a Google employee should draw the trail in, as seen in my screenshot in my last post. Trails can be tricky if they aren’t obvious in the aerials; I am currently trying to get an answer as to whether this is still an option but what we used to do is use a GPS tracker to trace the trail when walking it, upload that traill to My Maps, and then link to the map in the comments field. Since road edits are processed by humans this should still work, but I’m attempting to gain clarity.
