Hi I need some help recovering my points. I was at around 30,000 and now I’m at 21000. I’m honestly pretty upset by this. It takes a lot of work to get that many points and to have them go missing makes me not want to contribute anymore.
How do I get my points back?

Thanks for reaching out but you shouldn’t worry. there are from time to time issue on points. There are always fixed but sometimes it takes more time than some others.
This issue should be sorted out in the next few days.

Normally points can be lost due to two main reasons, first it can be depending of your setting for Google’s My Activity. Please have a look there to check your settings if you marked to keep your activity, otherwise activity is deleted and points are dropped as well. You can read more about that on this article: How do I delete my answers to questions on Google Maps?
If your activity is OK then another reason might be if some of your contributions are determined to be in a violation of the content policy, our filter running automatically in background marked them as private and you lost your points because of this.
If you feel that your contributions are all legitimate and you didn’t see anything removed from it then you can tag a Google moderator here to check if your account might be experiencing some issues.
Note that you can search Connect for similar questions to find already shared solutions.
@LuigiZ Is the default “keep all activities” or “automatically delete activities”?

default is normally to keep the activities but many users are changing that setting in order to remove the history and this is affecting also contributions and points as that’s part of the tracked activity.
There is an help topic on Google support about deleting activity and also an interesting post here on Connect on How do I delete my answers to questions on Google Maps where it is also clearly mentioned that the delete will affect also points related to the activity and there is no way to get them back.

Hi thank you for that information! My settings are to manually delete things not automatically so I don’t think that is the issue. This has happened before with my account, thousands of points went missing due to photo issues and they were able to return them.

If someone could please look into my account further that would be appreciated. I should be over 30,000 points not 21,000. It takes a lot of time to accumulate those points and it’s really frustrating to have them go missing. I noticed that my Seattle Gum Wall photos are missing for some reason, so maybe it’s a photo issue? Either way I would like my points back. Thank you

if you find missing photos than most probably the reason of lost points was due to be in a violation of the content policy, as mentioned above our filter running automatically in background marked them as private and you lost your points because of this.
When there is a violation of the content policy points will not be restored anymore being in fact a violation. Local Guides program is not just about getting points but providing high contributions level to the community.
Please note that tagging lot of people might be considered spam and there is no need of all those tags, just one Google Moderator is enough to be tagged @AlexaAC .
So is no one actually going to help me? Just give me a superficial answer without looking into the problem? The photos were actual photos of interior of stores or exteriors of the store… how is that not helpful content? Who can I talk to that would be more helpful?

I’m missing almost 10,000 points. This happened before because Google removed some of my photos. It looks like photos were removed again. I’m missing photos of Seattle’s gum wall and uBreakiFix. These photos were of the locations; various photos of the gum wall and interior/exterior shots of the store. I would like these points restored please. It takes a long time to curate content and get these points, having google remove them randomly all the time makes me not want to keep doing this.

Would you mind checking, if only the photos would be missing or any other elements?
It is much appreciated also for having pointed out the description for the missing photos, as from my side, please be noted as @LuigiZ kindly mentioned, to check carefully, as you may follow in Google Maps content policy, for the described Privacy policies.
Additionally, the posts category would also be changed to How-tos, should it be more related to the subject.

similar thing happened to me, probably two/three days ago. i figure i’ve lost anywhere between 8,000-9,000 and there’s been no reason given whatsoever. this opaqueness on google’s part is really galling, like talking to a brick wall. for all the effort we put in, at least some notification of why/when/how should be the least they do. will definitely slow down now. no point doing this anymore. the thing is, i actually enjoyed this!
