Few years ago, I had a chance to stay in Kyoto for working and holidays. Kyoto is the oldest city and the religious center for Japanese people in Japan. Temples and shrines are everywhere on the streets that you can easy to find. I like to visit temples and shrines on non-working days, especially when I was in a depressed mood. I could take a whole afternoon sit on Japanese porch of the temple and star the “niwa”, Zen garden, to get rid of all my depression. “Niwa” is carefully decorated by monks every day, only experienced monks can make a fine mind imagination of “niwa”. “Niwa” expressed mountains, ocean, and other natural images. The waved white sands may represent waves on the ocean, they use very simple decoration to be a universe. You can imagine in your mind to set the inner meanings without limitation.
Kennin ji is one of the most famous temples in Kyoto even in Japan. I also stay here for a whole afternoon, hope you would like it. And do not miss visiting temples when you travel in Kyoto.
