Millions of friends I am still to meet and a million places I am still to visit

What the Local Guides program means to me: Being part of something bigger

Dear friends who have chosen the same path as I.

We are part of something bigger, something that truly is extraordinary, something that will help and impact millions of people and something that is just plain fun.

I do believe we all have a responsibility to make sure whatever we are seeing online is always true and properly updated. This is especially important to Maps since we all rely heavily on local knowledge.

It means the world to me – to be able to participate in providing proper, updated and correct information always. I cannot not do this alone (Though I try) and thus I am thrilled that I have millions of friends out there seeking to do the exact same thing as I. You guys rock.

Me saying hi and trying to salute you all for your amazing work on Maps.

Given the current situation globally with the covid-19 virus correct local information has never been more important. Since several small companies and cultural places are closed or have updated opening hours a lot of people will visit places that cannot welcome them. Unfortunately, some are using the current situation to their benefits and are publishing loads of wrong information.

This needs to be handled and updated and I am sure several companies need to be updated once we are on the other side of the virus. But aside from the virus there are still so much information out there that are misleading, irrelevant or simply plain wrong. Luckily, all the action from local guides on Local Guides Connect tells me that we all are in the very best hands.

Whenever I visit new places, I try to do my absolute best to figure out if nearby attractions and companies needs to be updated. I feel i (and we) have an obligation to do so. And while doing so – I have found that I find it quite fun! And I do love the mails form Maps whenever an edit has been published. It motivates me too – because I know I still have a lot to learn from the best local guides out there.

I am honored to be part of a program that seeks to provide everyone with the absolute most updated information – wherever you are.

As far as I know there are few local guides nearby (I hope to be wrong), but I would love to organize local meetups with other local Danish guides like the great Local Guides Connect contributor @MortenCopenhagen and I do believe that the Local Guides CleanTheMap project (#LGCTM) by @JanVanHaver is something we all need to participate in.

Nice post, Rasmus!

So good to finally β€œmeet” other Danes on Connect.

I have compiled a list of 20-30 potential participants in a national network of Danish local guides. I certainly will add your name to the list. I hope to have the first two meet-ups ready this summer. And if you would care to participate in the planning, that would be great.

Fed rapsmark, som du har valgt som baggrund. Som bybo har jeg ikke engang opdaget dem endnu

Vi skrives ved!

Thanks! I am thrilled that there are so many Danish local guides. I was not aware of this - and yes I would more than happy to help planning the first of hopefully many DK meetups.
