Hi all.

LGC set the section Feedback-and-Feature-Requests in read only state so I inform you about updated situation of the Ex Panoramio pics in this new post (section How-tos).
Today is January 8, 2019.
Along the December 2018 my Panoramio pics slowly reappeared in GM. (history in the third url here under).
I estimate that now the photos have been all or almost all restored because my Google Maps photo counter hasn’t changed since december 19, 2018.
I believe the process of migrating my ex Panoramio photos is finished.
I should make a timely check but I think that the photos are almost all reappeared.
I ask you to check if your photos have been restored too.
The following problems remain open:
- The ex Panoramio photos are not associated with a POI, so the description of the POI is “Unknown place” on desktop browswer or “view place” on android app.
- In some rare cases the Google migration program tried to associate a POI but the result is hilarious because the association is completely wrong.
To resolve the problem it is necessary that Google allows the owner to update these photos with the correct POI in a similar way to what happens with the street view 360° photos. If this will be done, the former Panoramio photos will also produce points for the local guide program.

Today is February 28, 2019.
The process of migration of ex Panoramio photos is finished.
The following problems remain open:
-
Points for the Local Guides Program. In the email that announced the closure of Panoramio, Google said :
“3) Become a Local Guide to keep contributing
To keep adding photos to Google Maps and engage with a growing community of photographers, join the Local Guides program. You can earn points and unlock rewards for photos submitted with a Google account when they are linked to a point of interest or business. “Many of your Panoramio photos may already be counted.
-
After the migration the ex Panoramio photos are not tied to “real” point of interest and worst it’s impossible for the users to link/change the a point of interest. (on android it’s possible to change the caption but not the POI),
The description of the POI is “Unknown place” on desktop browser or “view place” on android app.
The lack of link photo ↔ POI don’t give any point. This is confirmed by Help Centre who said ex Panoramio photos will only count for Local Guides points when tied to a point of interest or business.
-
Other problem is the wrong automatic association. In some rare cases the Google migration program automatically associated a POI but the result is hilarious because the association is completely wrong.
The problem is known (see for example the url below); my opinion is that Google in some way promises that “many of your Panoramio photos may already be counted” but didn’t offer any tool or possibility to update the POI field and this is, in some way, a misbehaviour towards the users who partecipate in the local guide program.
To resolve the problem it is necessary that Google allows the photo owner to update these photos with the correct POI in a similar way to what happens with the street view 360° photos.
Inserting the missing or exact POI gives benefits to Google’s business and permits to earn points for the persons of LGP.
I ask @PaulPavlinovich if he can report the problem to the Google reference structure.
Many thanks
