Mexico City- an easy flight from California hosts 2 of the Worlds 50 Best Restaurant (2018), Quintonil (#11) and Pujol (#13). I had the pleasure of trying both in one day, one for lunch and one for dinner. It was a food marathon! With the exchange rate we were eating like Kings!
So which one is better and which one is worth it?
#11- Quintonil: 9 course tasting menu. Do it. Creative, beautiful, decadent and savory. All the flavors were exquisite and unique. Never had I ate a catus ceviche before, or even Mamey with smoked caviar. The menu often changes due to what’s in season, so don’t expect the same thing. Quintonil uses Mexican flavors and brings it to the next level!
#13- Pujol: Have you seen the Netflix documentary on this? Enrique Olvera is probably the most famous chef in Mexico! Pujol received more fame than Quintonil. The food is also Mexican new and they are famous for their 1000+ days mole! Again, the menu changes often and you can choose between meat and veggies.
So which one is better? I would pick Quintonil over Pujol. The menu is more creative and I’ve never experience fine Mexican dining like that. But if you are ever in Mexico City, you should definitely try to eat at both! With the exchange rate, you get a killer deal to try 2 of the worlds best restaurant!
