Mexico City — the world's most affectionate city

There are many observations to make while exploring Mexico City. The food is amazing, there is great architecture, the city is lively, there are great plazas and parks, people are friendly, it is busy and crowded, there is great art and museums.

And, it may be the most affectionate city in the world.

It is impossible to ignore public displays of affection (pda) on almost every corner, and everywhere in between. Tucked between those leisurely strolling a park or plaza, one will see couples engaged in passionate pda sessions.

In the Plaza Glorieta Insurgentes there is a young couple exchanging hip-hop rhymes. When I ask about the pda throughout Mexico City, they offer a lyrical explanation, rapping that in a city of 21 million, a couple is supportive of each other, and Mexicans feel love is a necessity in life.

Compared to other cities around the world, there may be no place like Mexico City’s public displays of affection — it is the polar opposite of Tokyo.

Mexico City is not only the capital of Mexico, it may be the world’s capital for most affectionate.

For fellow world travelers, is there any other city that rivals Mexico City as the world’s most affectionate?

And, what lies in the fabric of the Mexico City culture that makes it so affectionate compared to other cities?
