Mesmerizing green beauty inside a hot city.

A green place with vintage buildings inside a hot city like chennai city is indeed something special. Theosophical society is a placed i visited last year on my 27th birthday for the first time, a visit which turned out to be memorable forever. It is situated near the banks of river coovam, filled with green trees and bird wailing, that too in the heart of the city. The place was formed by Helena blavatsky in the year 1890 in chennai. In its formative years people like Annie besant and Jiddu krishnamurthi had played a significant role in bringing up this theosophical society. Not many know this but it is my school which I studied, St.Patricks Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Adyar gave land for this noble initiative.

The place is filled with greenery with various type of trees, which are specified with botanical names on it. You can also find various type of reptiles and specimens running around. This place can be a playground for avid photographers who love to shoot vintage buildings built during the british period or the tiny reptiles running past or the magnificent trees standing tall. One of the major attractions inside this place is the adyar banyan tree which is the one of the biggest banyan trees in the country.

There is also a beautiful buddha temple inside the society which gives a sense of calmness when you’re just near it. I managed to take a pic of this which crossed 10,000 views in a couple of weeks and is one of the most viewed pics of mine. There is also a river view just nearby the temple to see its beauty especially in the evenings when the sun sets is a visual treat. By enlarge this is a wonderful place to visit which not many people know and I hope this post gives an idea of what to expect inside this green heaven.

The British Empire has left an amazing heritage there, as I can see. Are there any entry fees for this place?

Indeed, the entry is free.

Thanks for clarifying @anandasjak ! I didn’t see many visitors on the pictures. Is it a popular destination and who’s taking care of the maintenance?

I would say it’s not popular destination like I mentioned in my post not many people know of this beautiful place. That is one of the reasons why I wanted to post about it, many of my friends would like to visit when I talk highly about it. I believe the society in itself takes care of the maintenance @FlameFox

The landmark presentation sounded as if it’s a place where people go often which is why I thought that there’s still tourist flow. Thank you, @anandasjak for explaining that it’s a more of a hidden gem than the local celebrity place.

It also looks well preserved, aside the trees all around. Awesome to hear that locals have taken under consideration the maintenance. We can’t say the same about many monuments around the world. Sounds like we have a great cultural example, in addition.

Beautiful place indeed @anandasjak
