2020 years ago in rome they celebrated day of the pagan gods. Or Saturnalia
It was easier to change the name of the religious holliday than change the date 
same with buildings like churches
Ah yes, this often happens with holidays. Mithras was also born on December 25 for instance. And not to speak about Stalin (true he was born on the 18th according to Wikipedia)
