Merging duplicate places resulted in removed reviews

Hey guys,

A friend of mine has a restaurant business and puts lots of efforts in gaining great reviews in Google maps. The restaurant had over 1500 reviews to date.

After seeing that there is a small duplicate version of the restaurant written in Cyrilic (with 25 reviews), he decided to get the ownership of the place. This resulted in a merge of the two accounts and all the 1500 reviews were deleted and only those 25 remained. This is 3 years worth of work and huge disadvantage in those bad times for restaurants.

He connected with the support, but they said they cannot do anything about it?

Here is the location:

This is not right. Have you had similar issues and how were they fixed.

Thanks!

Update. It seems something happened and the reviews are back. However, the images and details are still not merged properly.

Hi @TihomirN ,

Thanks for reaching out.

It is great that your friend’s listing has been updated and fixed. As for the incorrect business details, they may manage directly as an owner of the listing. How to do so you may find in this article - Manage your Business Profile on Google.

However, if they need further support it is best to reach out to the Google My Business help center. Connect is a place for Local Guides who are individuals and do not represent businesses.

I hope this was helpful.

Hey @TihomirN most of the time when ownership of a business changes there will be a lot of changes on Google guides. Please listen to what @MashaPS

Suggests , there is good advice there.

Good to know that your friend issue has been solved. When a merge happen, because a Local Guide, or the owner itself through Google My Business, flagged a place as a duplicate, the merge need time, at least 24 hours, because a lot of databases need to synchronise.

In addition, you may have conflicts in the merge (e.g. reviews written by the same person in both places) that need to be resolved. Waiting a few days before to raise an issue is a good practice, to give time to the system to set the information on the correct position. In this case, as your friend did it through Google My Business, the interlocutor should be, as suggested by @MashaPS , Google My Business Help Center
