The meetup looks interesting. @NunungAfuah
My best wishes for the meetup :bouquet:

I have done several storefront photowalks in in Pune.

Google translate says “Preparation of IDR 25k allowance”
Can you tell more about this?

Hi @TusharSuradkar could you give me some tips for hosting photo walk meet up? Our meet up will explore historical buildings in Malang. The right translation is preparation for pocket money IDR 25K (for ticket entrance).

OK, understood @NunungAfuah
Thanks for the same :+1:

I had done mainly Storefront photo walks.
This involves updating the exterior photos of shops and businesses.

Although local guides like Morten Copenhagen suggest that the photo should be taken from the front side, I always insist on taking it from one side, the way it will appear to a Google Maps user when approaching the shop.

My second tip would be to capture corner photos of shop, when possible, since they are considered more valuable.
I do not know why.
But they look cool for some reason.

My last tip would be to include both day and nighttime photos of a business, since they will help users a lot.

Also, finally a bonus tip would be to take a long distance shot of a shop or business and then crop it to include only the business of interest before uploading to Google Maps. This way there is no need to get very close to the shop. Some businesses may not adequately understand the intent behind the photo and may object to it or look upon local guides with suspicion. Though this is a country-specific cultural issue.

Hope these tips help local guides in Malang and you have a great meetup of photos and enjoyment

@NunungAfuah Sorry mate, I’ve been away from here for a bit spending time on a project. Hopefully not too late. I usually try to

  • Plan a route in advance and walk it with someone else to make sure it is safe

  • Have a contingency plan for when you lose people e.g. if you get lost meet at X at time Y

  • Try to find public toilets, food and drink along the way

  • Have fun :slightly_smiling_face:
