Memories of Death Valley National Park #StateChallenge

Sitting at home, no where to go, trying to make the best out of Shelter in place situation, hence this post about my trip to Death Valley National Park from December 2013.

I am trying to travel back in time with these pictures captured during that trip. Death Valley is a long drive from San Francisco Bay area, where I live. This was a 4 day trip to the National park. With 4 days we had enough time to cover important tourist spots and also do some hiking as well.

First Picture above shows photographers waiting for their shots, all the good spots are taken, to take pictures

Here is the shot I captured, managed to get some space to capture this shot!

road to Death Valley, Death Valley Sign, Sand Dunes, Golden Canyon

The view of road to Death Valley is Spectacular, you must capture this shot on the way to death valley.

We did a hike from Zabriskie Point through Golden Canyon. Some of the key places one can visit in death valley: Masquite Sand Dunes, Artists Drive, Dante’s View, Bad Water Basin, Scottie’e Castle, Ubehebe
Crater, The Racetrack!

Furnace Creek Ranch, Bad Water Basin, Ubehebe Crater Rim, Artist Drive, Scottie's Castle

Beautiful shots, @jayasimha78 , really!

I was last year at Death Valley, in November, and saw the same line-up of photographers waiting for the perfect shot at Zabriskie Point.

You can find some of my shots at Death Valley as well other NPs in my post:

Amazing photos @jayasimha78 I especially like the shot of Zabriskie Point, the colors are amazing. A silly question perhaps but why is it called Death Valley?

@AdamGT Great Question. We all learn from Curiosity, this time your curiosity. Frankly I had to look up for the answer :). This is what I found by Google Search:

“Why is it called Death Valley? Death Valley was given its forbidding name by a group of pioneers lost here in the winter of 1849-1850. Even though, as far as we know, only one of the group died here, they all assumed that this valley would be their grave”

Hello @jayasimha78 ,

Wow, such a great post you have shared. It is nice to travel back in time by looking at your old travel photos. I do that quite often as well. Thank you for sharing yours.

I like how incredible the sky looks in your second photo. Did you use any filter for the color? What other parks have you visited? I am sure it will be appreciated if you post about each one of them

P.S. Check out this great post about Celebrating National Parks, I am sure you will like it. Have you ever been to West Rim of the Grand Canyon?

I would love it if you make posts about each of them. I am sure it will be very appreciated and enjoyed by other Local Guides. Thanks again for your reply and the beautiful recap.

@Ekattotii Yellow Stone National Park is my favorite. This has it’s own micro climate. It is kind of combination of several national parks, with lot more wild life, which can be seen. Sure will start writing those posts!

Death Valley is certainly an amazing place. Did you know if you take a rental car there you’re not covered by insurance? Too many people break down there. Its as dry and hot as outback Australia.
