Meetup posts on Sri Lanka Local Guides Community page gets disappeared

These days I find it difficult to post meetup posts on Sri Lanka Local Guides Community page. It will be there for few minutes or hours, and suddenly it gets disappeared. Since we are facing some hiccups in LG Connet and meetup site, Is this similar technical issues?

Today I posted twice the meetup I planned on March 19, 2017, it was online for few minutes or hours, and after some time, it was disappeared.

This issue is not helping us to promote Sri Lanka Local Guides related activities in Sri Lanka. @Corrie , @JessicaS_1 @AradhanaB @BellaWi @Gus @YanniY Could you please look into this issue? We want to promote Local Guides in Sri Lanka, and problems like this(after we put a lot of efforts to post it and if gets disappeared like this) will discourage us to promote Local Guides in Sri Lanka.

I am tagging Sri Lanka Local Guides community owner and moderators here. I think they are also facing this issue. @DihanP @NadunD @UdayaGune @user_not_found Did you notice this issue?

@IlankovanT @AnuradhaP It sounds like @DihanP (the community owner) may have moderation for posts turned on. This is really a question for Google+, but I believe when you post something in a community and moderation for new posts is turned on (to avoid spam), it will show up for you but not show up for everyone until the moderator(s) approve it.

Hello TraciC,

We’ll check on that, I think it happens if a same user post too many in a day or a on the same week without any interactions (+1s or comments) from rest of the community members; we noticed most of his or her post(s) goes to spam automatically. Anyway, we’ll have an eye on that. All the relevant & quality post as well as new member requests are moderated by the moderators of “Sri Lanka Local Guides” community.

@TraciC , @DihanP thanks. It only happens to meetup posts. Other posts get published. All the time meetup posts will be online for some hours or minutes before it gets disappeared. I do not know. It is strange. I am not spamming, I post relevant posts. When it gets disappeared I am reposting them.

This is really strange. I will check with Google + community(making posts as spam when there is no user activity). But most of my posts get +1s.

I am handling few Google + communities and nothing like this happened to me. Anyway, these days I am feeling some software acts in a funny way.

@DihanP Could you please post meetup posts? There are really important. We are planning these meetups for Map Your World Week 2017.

@TraciC thank you,

@DihanP actually I have noted this is happening when I share meet-up posts. As @AnuradhaP said we are not spamming and sharing posts related to LG activities to the community. Specially encouraging local guides to attend meet-up’s. You can check my profile and I’m always active on Sri Lanka Local Guides community by sharing useful posts (and people make +1, comments too).

I have reported this to you long time before by email and told me that you will investigate and reply, so far no reply on that and the problem is still existing among other local guides. Appreciate if you could share Sri Lanka Local Guides March meet-up’s. (Few local guides are hosting their first meet-up and it’s our responsibility to encourage them by sharing their posts in other local guides communities, doing such will be a motivating factor for them.

@DihanP seems still the issue is exists. And wondering why it happening only for meet-up shares for all local guides. Yesterday I found Batticaloa meet-up was not visible in the Sri Lanka Local Guides community, then I shared again. for few hours it was there and it disappeared. But I can see the shared post under my profile.

@TraciC could you please help on this. Seems there is a issue on G+? Or moderation?

@TraciC This Google + issue is not going to help us to promote LGs in Sri Lanka. Pls look into this. This only happens for meetup posts.

@AnuradhaP @IlankovanT As I noted earlier, I believe this has to do with a community owner’s permissions and whether or not a post is held for review until a moderator approves it to be posted in the community or the community moderator removes the post itself. I own the New York City Local Guides community and yesterday, @Ron356 shared a link to a meet-up in the community but it still appears in the community today so I am unable to replicate it.

I’ll share with the team to take a look, but also recommend posting in the Google+ Help Forum/Community, too.

Hi @IlankovanT ,

Just want to share some personal experience being a Moderator to a G+ community page.

Even for my own posts, they can be put on hold by the system (there is no keyword write list / person white list that we can tune. It is 100% by G+ automatic). Personally I will not know that my posts in the SPAM queue pending for review - it is just visible to other Moderators and the Owner.

We can just set the Moderation of Each Post on or off. Thus for the G+ community that have it turned off, it will get caught by the G+ Spam detection hard - as they are not ready to check for (even not aware) posts stuck in the Spam Queue.

Hope it can help.

@AnuradhaP @IlankovanT @ Seems all the events are visible in Sri Lanka Local Guides community, but screenshot which you shared here still not visible on Sri Lanka Local Guides Community, I can see only Sri Lanka Local Guides shared the meetup page (from Their account). @DihanP I think issue is still there. When we post a meet-up it’s going as spam?

Seems it’s a moderation problem. Can you check with your community moderators regarding this issue?

@TraciC thank you very much and we will also post in G+ help forum, community. Just noted my shared post (yesterday’s one) not visible in the community and the owner shared newly. But under my profile my original share still exists :frowning:

I’m not an expert on Google+ but I do know that even if your posts are removed from a community or marked as spam, they’ll still appear on your own Google+ profile, @IlankovanT .

@YK1001 this is really helpful. actually I’m bit worried why the moderators not attending to mark the genuine posts not as spam? Normally in my Batticaloa local guides community I check everyday and attend everything. Yesterday shared a meet-up post which not visible in the community and it was appearing for few hours and disappeared, and just noted the meet-up page shared by the community owner. It’s confusing me lot.

@IlankovanT @YK1001 As @IlankovanT mentioned I also check everything in my communities at least once a day and do the needful. We want to promote local guides in Sri Lanka and last few months were working hard towards this.

@YK1001 , @TraciC If one post is online for some time(for few minutes to hours as it happened in the Sri Lanka Local Guides Community page in last few days) it can not be an issue with Google + automatic spam filtering. If Google + identifies me as a spammer, they will block all my posts, and my posts will not be online for some time and then mark them as spam. The strange thing is that the active Sri Lankan Local Guides meetup posts get marked as spams in Sri Lanka Local Guides community.

I am sharing all my posts in other Sri Lankan local guide communities(Anuradhapura, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Batticaloa,…) and I never had an issue in these communities.

The Kalutara meetup, which planned on March 19, 2017, is now not visible. I noticed now Sri Lanka Local Guides Community is not allowing meetup organisers to post meetups directly to the community. They post it as Sri Lanka Local Guides > Owner.

It would be nice to see a Sri Lanka Local Guide Community resolve this issue as earliest convenience. Otherwise, this will discourage a lot of active local guides to contribute to the local guides program, which is an amazing concept that allows us to contribute the betterment of our society. Especially in a country like ours.

@TraciC thank you. I checked my full local guides posts in Sri Lanka Local Guides community and few deleted in last year. Bit sad about this…

@AnuradhaP I totally agree with you. I’m bit upset these days regarding this issue and still confused why all the meet-up posts are live for few hours and disappeared. Then the same post shared by the community owner with custom content :frowning:

@IsurangaD thanks and I also saw that.

@DihanP As you own your own community, it is indeed up to you to choose how to run it but we encourage Local Guides to ensure their communities are a warm and welcoming place for all to contribute/interact with one another. Did you know that you can set trusted community members (like fellow community owners or frequent posters) so that their posts are allowed to show up at all times? You can right click on their name in the community member list to auto approve all of their posts. More info is in the Google+ Help Center.

Hi All,

“Sri Lanka Local Guides” community is an unofficial community similar to “Batticaloa Local Guides” etc. which has an owner & passionate moderators. We have noticed some other active Local Guides communities around the country which is encouraging to spread the Google Local Guides activities.

As a community we need interactions from all our community members and not by always one or two. All other local guide communities are greatly welcome to post their events or activities in “Sri Lanka Local Guides” community page as well by the respective page owners and event organisers. if we go through the past post(s) in the community we could noticed few individuals are posted extensively in the page which may have caused automatic spam in G+ “Sri Lanka Local Guides” community page.

Please encourage other community owners and individual Local Guides to post their events and activities in the “Sri Lanka Local Guides” page in order to avoid automatic spam and cluttering.

@TraciC thank you, it is very well noted

@TraciC This is a completely a volunteer work and as mentioned by @DihanP in his last post I can not see few active local guides are extensively publishing content on Sri Lanka Local Guides. It may be the case that only a few local guides like me want to publish in Sri Lanka Local Guides Community and Google + detects us as spammers.

@DihanP I can not see the event published by me on March 17, 2017. Could you please look into it? Is it due to a technical issue in Google +?

@TraciC In any “volunteer” work there will be few active members. If others are not publishing anything, even one or two posts by an active member can be considered as extensive publishing, since others are not doing so.

As I mentioned earlier whenyou look at the nature of the Local Guides program, there should be a super moderator from Google in all Local Guides Communities. Sometimes the owners of some communities may do not know how to use Google Plus properly. Then a super moderator can intervene and help. @TraciC has mentioned how to make a someone trusted community member. If a super moderator is there he can help the community moderator in such case.

** @DihanP **Hope you could resolve this issue.
