In doing our business we meet lots and lots of people and for people that are not really used to this they tend to get scared or nervous but really there nothing to be nervous about and that is why am writing this to help anyone who’s not really used to meeting people too frequently either due to the nature of job or activities.
1.SMILE:When you are meeting people for the first time your first weapon is the good old smile grenade! it works all the time it helps to dampen the tension around.it works as i have used it a lot and i have gained quite a number of friends with this.
2.ICE BREAKERS: The use of ice breakers is another trick out of the hat,i used this recently at the Abuja Local guides Connect.as i walked into the lounge after registration i met one guy sipping his drink and nibbling on some small chops so with my smile grenade i approached him and said hi am Frederick level 6,am sure you are one of the level 10 guys?he smiled we started a cordial discussion.
3.DISCUSSION FUELS:These are things that keep the flow they are things of interest, hobbies, place of residence and things that generate gist.
So look forward to the meet up with expectation and confidence.
I try to do all of these things when I meet people for the first time, and not only. Usually, I get really nervous when I’m with people, especially if it’s a big group. In such cases, I arm myself with an ear-to-ear smile and just try to show them that I enjoy their company.
Another thing I try to do is have a casual conversation with one person at a time, and give them my full attention. Talking with many people at once is quite uncomfortable for me, as I feel like I might unintentionally ignore someone, and not reply to their question or comment.
By the way, why not tell us more about your experience at Connect Live Abuja? I’m sure you took many photos!
