Good to see your note. Stockholm definitely needs a google local guide. We should set it up and people will join. I have been in stockholm for 2 years now and recently got interested in the local guide communities. Happy to be part of it.
I, myself think stockholm is a bit overrated. Sure, there are some really nice places but people living there tend to forget what sweden in whole have to offer. I just moved from Stockholm a few months ago and now live in Uppsala county, I really feel it offers me more as a person.
But I’m always interested in a good community, to explore new places and also bring along the camera for some creative outlet.
40 something Täby (20 min north from Sthlm) resident here
Ive just started with all this, but im an avid reviewer in my local area - I lived in the central Sthlm area for about 10 years ago - I dont really get to the city as much these days…
Hej Anders J i Borås!!
Greetings Celestine - and all the others as well! I’m Niilo, living in the very north in Luleå (but I just normally say my home turf is North Pole and I fired up Sweden Local Guides community this spring. Haven’t been doing much with the it during the summer - been off the grid quite a bit - but now I feel it’s time to get things rolling. I lived in Stockholm 20 years in my previous life, btw.
Please do check out the community here - hoping that many others will also find their way there later on. And hey, it would be way cool to hear a bit more about Australia; never been but it’s on my bucket list for sure.
The Meet-up idea is great! After all, it’s just one hour from Luleå to Stockholm - or the other way round
I’ve joined both, and encourage everybody to do the same so we can keep in touch. Maybe we can organise our meet ups through those unofficial communities?
Since there are so few of us it may be good to merge the two communities too, but that would be up to the moderators of the groups.
Looking forward to meeting you all sometimes soon!
I noticed the Stockholm SLG community after renaming mine so I have no problem going back to the ‘Luleå’ name (since the Stockholm folks apparently were first to claim the ‘Sweden’ community name). Wonder if the Stockholm community owner has a Connect profile? In fact, it doesn’t seem to say who created the Stockholm GLC community. Must check! I have asked feedback about this issue from mods here; nothing yet but hopefully soon
Oops, I’d guess I’m getting mixed up here a bit - I could swear I saw another Swedish LG community called Sweden Local Guides - just like mine! Shoot, now I’ll just wait and see what happens
@CelestineB , @NiiloA , @ChristianW_1 , @SimonB_2 , @AndersJ , @ChristianH_1 (the others couldn’t be found by the search function) - are you all still active (I know some are). Should a meetup wait further or could it perhaps be planned, even if Sweden has no proper, official group yet?
Always interested in meetups @DanniN but I’ll be on a couple of work trips now in the fall and additional travel is kinda out of the question for now. Virtual meeting would be fine though!
@DanniN it could always be an unofficial meetup, whether virtual or in person (preferred). E.g if it were in Stockholm, we could get started on meeting each other in person, providing tips, perhaps doing some walks together to test out the new features on maps (missing info / edit approvals). Everybody would have to be willing to participate though.
I’m new to this LG thing, but think it’s a great idea. Not only a way to meet new ideas, world views and people. But to be able to share and get to know places.
Anyways, I live 16 min north from STHLM and would like to join for a meet-up.
@CelestineB I’m up for a real meetup, but the more the merrier. Happened to visit Sthlm the other day and my friend there showed me how to play Ingress right in the middle of Södermalm. Quite an experience with thousands of people around us. I’m more into Google Maps.
Right @DanniN , perhaps we could run a ‘private mode’ HangoutOnAir; I’ve been heavily into live HangoutsOnAir for some years now through my job (I’m a teacher) and it’s pretty neat for sure! Of course, a virtual meeting does not need to replace a physical one - on the contrary. A virtual meeting could very well be followed up by a physical one - obviously regardless if I can travel or not
I think both a virtual hangout as @NiiloA mention, and the irl meet-ups could do great work together and compliment each other. Through the virtual hangouts all the locals from around Sweden can meet up and share, from all the local meetings that has been in irl. Then of course its great to use the virtual hangouts for the lg too.
An idea, perhaps have an unoffical virtual hangout, just to say hi and get a date for a irl meeting?
