Meet-up Challenge : Creating a List

Hello everyone ,

Last Saturday, I attended my first Local guides Meet-up, Lists for Google Maps Talk ,hosted by @KarenVChin and @Kwiksatik . The talk was about “Lists” for Google Maps. As it was my first local guides meet-up, I was really excited. After the meet-up I did learn a lot about Lists, like What are Lists, Why should i create a List and few Tips with some examples.

At the end of the meet-up, we were given a challenge, to make a public list of local businesses with at least 5 entries and item descriptions - https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Challenge-for-attendees-of-the-quot-Lists-for-Google-Maps-quot/td-p/2660332 .

Being a foodie and a traveler , I used to visit a place every month which I have never been and tried to taste the local cuisine. Sometimes it was very difficult to find a place to have some authentic local cuisine . Here I have created a list of the best 5 restaurants in my hometown to taste the authentic local cuisine without emptying your pocket.

So , here is my list - https://goo.gl/maps/3YwdNXN2xmph4LdB6

  1. Raja Tea Shop ( Breakfast) - It’s a very small local restaurant which serves delicious breakfast. The restaurant is situated alongside the banks of a river , which makes it a perfect place to have your morning tea enjoying the scenic beauty. On average, the breakfast will cost around a dollar !

  2. Halais Restaurant ( Lunch ) - If you are a Biriyani Lover , then this is the place for you. This place serves the best chicken biriyani in town. During noon, finding a table will be a bit difficult. But its worth the wait . In my childhood days, my father used to buy me a parcel biriyani when ever I scored good marks in exams, so the place is kinda nostalgic for me :).

  3. Hotel Brothers ( Lunch 2 ) - As my hometown Alappuzha is famous for its backwaters, no visit is complete without having the vide varieties of fish dishes . The restaurant is famous for its special fish meals. A must try one.

  4. Cafe Catamaran ( Sunset Meal ) - Yea, the sunset meal. The cafe is situated alongside the beach, which gives you a perfect view of the sunset , while having your evening coffee.

  5. Ramada Alleppey ( Dinner) - Now its time for you to have some fun. A rooftop bar which serves the best multi cuisine dishes. The place is a bit upscale, but its totally worth it. The view is quite mesmerising. This is the bar where I used to sneak in during my school days, so nostalgia hits again

I hope you guys liked my small list. It’s my first try. So I promise to improvise and will be posting more helpful public Lists for the community .

I once again thank @KarenVChin and @Kwiksatik for hosting the meet-up which helped me learnt about “Lists” and enjoyed your presentation .

Thank you .

@NanduMuraleedharan@Kwiksatik and I are deeply honored that you chose to RSVP and attend our Lists for Google Maps Talk as your first Local Guides Meet-up.

From what I can see on your very first created Google Maps lists you did a fantastic job! You are definitely a List Pro!

On a side note, you had me at “chicken biryani” from your list. I can easily eat at all 5 places you listed from breakfast to late night. If You have done this already, I can see you creating a list of Things To Do in your hometown.

Cheers,

Karen

@NanduMuraleedharan this is a fantastic list! I can’t imagine choosing one lunch suggestion over the other… I would definitely opt for a two-lunch kind of day if I were in the area. Truly local cuisine can be difficult to track down. If I am ever fortunate enough to be in the area, I will be so excited to make use of your recommendations! I’ve followed the list. I want to stay tuned to the food you have to share about!

Hi @NanduMuraleedharan ,

I couldn’t agree more with @KarenVChin and @Kwiksatik when I say that your first-ever list is amazing! I especially like how you’ve mentioned the different types of food one can have at each place and the way you’ve arranged the spots according to the time of day that’s best to go. And the personal details you’ve added here make your list even more special!

By the way, I’ll change the topic of your post to Food & Drink, so that fellow foodies can easily find your list. To find more about Connect topics, check out How to choose a topic for your Connect post. Thank you!

Hello @DeniGu ,

As I’m new to connect, while making the post I was a bit confused about picking a topic.

I really appreciate your efforts on picking the right topic for my post.

and I have bookmarked How to choose a topic for your Connect post

Welcome to Connect, @NanduMuraleedharan ! :grinning:

In this case, you might also want to introduce yourself to the community in our monthly Introduce Yourself topic and see an overview of the platform in Your guide to Connect. In general, the Help Desk is a great start.

Looking forward to more great posts (and lists) from you!
