Meet Lepcha Community Dzongu in Sikkim, India

In October 2018, we visited Lepcha community, protected in Dzongu Block in Sikkim. 80km far away from Gangtok city. Dzongu is foothill of Monunt Pandim. We enjoyed local drink Chi, fermented beverages of millet. Please come and enjoy serenity and peace of Eastern Himalaya.

Hello @Skalyan ,

Thanks for sharing!

This place seems super calm and fresh. Is it possible to stay there for overnight? Are there any guesthouses? Please tell us a bit more about the Chi, because Iā€™m very curious about it. What is it made from?

Hi,

Dzongu is really a beautiful place, confluence of river Tista and Rongyoung, protected for Lepcha tribal community. Few homestays are available here. Rumlyang Home stay, Druden homestay, Zigmee homstay and others are located in Tingvong village.

Chi is homemade country liquor, made with fermented millet and hot water. Its uniqueness is it is served with bamboo glass and should be sipped with bamboo straw.
