Hi, I’m Ben! I love helping people learn, and discover, and grow. Local Guides is one way I get to realise that passion.
Anywhere you go in the world, “talk to the locals” is the #1 piece of advice you get. They’re the people who know what’s what; where the best coffee is, which streets to avoid and when, and many lesser-known gems you would never have found without their help. I love that Google Maps, Local Guides, and Connect, gives the locals a global voice and recognition of the service they provide to the people who visit their areas.
Like many of us here, I use Google Maps and services a whole bunch, and I believe that paying it forward is a vital part of our community’s strength. As someone who gets a lot of use out of Google Maps, it them makes sense to contribute helpfully to improve the accuracy and depth of the information available to people. My reviews, photos, and facts, help people to find local businesses and locations to meet their needs or satisfy their curiosity.
I love sharing (and seeing) great photos on Google Maps. Simple informative photos that provide me with relevant information, and gorgeous photos that showcase the location in the best way the user is able to do. I try and post really gorgeous photos of places within the best of my ability, and also post functional photos that give a clear picture of the place. A picture tells 1000 words, and it does so automatically regardless of language, culture, or geography.
Adelaide is known as the Small Business Capital of Australia. They say if you can succeed here, you’ll be okay in any other city. This is because the locals are both incredibly supportive of new ventures, but also very discerning. If you give bad service, or a bad product, then word of mouth spreads fast and there aren’t enough people here to absorb it. Google Maps and the reviews it has, can be crucial to ensuring this ecosystem of small businesses, start-ups, and entrepreneurial ventures, functions by allowing well-rated businesses to be found bym and promoted to, customers and clients.
So there you have it:
- I love the local knowledge I can share and receive
- I love paying it forward with contributions that help other people
- I love sharing photos
- I love helping Adelaide’s small businesses get seen, by providing information and reviews
