Connect Moderators are Local Guides just like you and me. They apply the knowledge they’ve gained as active members of our community to moderate Connect and help improve the experience for everyone. You may see them welcoming newcomers, explaining the program, answering questions, and sharing their knowledge with others.
Each month, we share some personal insights from one of our amazing Connect Moderators. This month, meet Indah ( @indahnuria ). Indah lives inJakarta, Indonesia, and speaks English and Bahasa Indonesia.

What I love about being a Local Guide: Being a Local Guide provides me with the opportunity to help others and share about the things I love. I can share the joy of traveling around the globe and the beauty of Indonesia, my beloved country. [I can] raise awareness about important issues, such as accessibility, ocean protection, environmental preservation, no-plastic campaigns, and more.
As an avid traveler, I always look for references and assistance from reputable sources, and Google Maps has been instrumental in providing that assistance. So when the Local Guides program kicked off, I thought, hey, I can help as well. I joined in 2017 when I was still in New York City, but then I moved back to Indonesia in 2018, and I met more Local Guides in Jakarta. I have the privilege to travel around domestically and internationally, so I hope my contributions can help others, [just like] I enjoy reading their reviews on Google Maps.
After joining Connect, my world and my family of Local Guides immensely expanded. I’ve really learned a lot from them [about how] to be a better Local Guide. It’s been a joyful ride so far.
Why I’m a Connect Moderator: I’m so honored and excited to be one of the Connect Moderators. I know I have a lot to learn, but I enjoy interacting with others on Connect, be it in comments, virtual meet-ups, or even groups. Although I don’t post often (my bad), I try to put my heart into every post I share. I hope I can bring some energy and positivity to the Connect Moderators and the global community on Connect. Wish me luck!
My favorite things to explore: I love diving so much! Anything to do with the beach and the ocean is part of my itinerary whenever possible. At the same time, as I also love taking pictures, blogging, and vlogging, I enjoy beautiful sceneries, local food, traditional fabrics, and any landmarks or interesting places. And I have a soft spot for museums, too! I can spend a whole day strolling around museums just to quench my curiosity.
My favorite type of contribution(s) to make on Google Maps: I share a lot of photos and some videos. I love outdoor adventures, so I try to add them on Google Maps. Places like diving spots, islands, national parks, and natural areas are my favorite.
But at the same time, I’m a foodie, and I love exploring local cuisines as well. Because of COVID-19, my outdoor activities have reduced significantly, and nowadays, I visit more local stores, supermarkets, minimarts, and restaurants in my neighborhood. I’ve been trying to update my previous reviews, too. Whenever applicable, I also add more details related to accessibility and sustainability.
Languages I read/speak/write fluently: English and Bahasa Indonesia
Places I’d like to visit: Wonderful landscapes and nature are like a magnet to me. I dream of traveling around Indonesia! I know it’s a huge task as Indonesia is a big country, but I believe there are so many hidden paradises that I can discover. I would like to dive around some unique areas like Palau, the Galapagos Islands, and South Georgia Island. I want to visit Alaska and Antarctica (fingers crossed), as well as Mecca and Medina. I believe that every place is unique, and you can find beauty everywhere.
**Fun fact about me:**I’m crazy about purple and diving, and I’m always craving bakso, the Indonesian meatball soup! I collect Indonesian traditional fabrics, and in addition to my two adorable kids, I’m a mom of five fabulous felines: Plum, Mrs. C, Kiki, Yellow, and PJ.
