Meet a Connect Moderator: Alexandre

Connect Moderators are Local Guides just like you and me. They apply the knowledge they’ve gained as active members of our community to moderate Connect and help improve the experience for everyone. You may see them welcoming newcomers, explaining the program, answering questions, and sharing their knowledge with others.

Each month, we share some personal insights from one of our amazing Connect Moderators. This month, meet Alexandre (@AlexandreCampbell). Alexandre lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and speaks Portuguese, Spanish, and English.

Name: Alexandre Campbell

Location: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

What I love about being a Local Guide: It allows me to be useful to my community, get to know people from all around the world, and make progress as a person. I’ve been making a lot of friends and having a lot of fun being part of [this] global and diverse community.

Why I’m a Connect Moderator: I like to be useful and get people together, so it is always a pleasure welcoming newcomers and helping people by answering questions about Google Maps and Local Guides Connect. I also love to host and attend meet-ups, and it has been helping me make a lot of friends. I always try to start new topics and contribute to improving the quality of discussions on Connect.

My favorite things to explore: I love to visit museums, theaters, and all cultural and historical places. Rio de Janeiro, for example, is famous for its beaches and landscapes (and I love them as well), but I like to explore the old Rio de Janeiro, which used to be the Brazilian capital until 1961.

My favorite type of contribution(s) to make on Google Maps: My favorite kind of contribution is adding and editing places, especially small businesses. I’m always thrilled when I get an edit accepted because I know that it impacts my community positively and makes Google Maps more accurate. Of course, I also like to make [other contributions], like reviewing places and telling others what they can expect. I also take advantage of Google Maps, and I always use it to discover new places and make better decisions. So, it is a win-win situation.

Languages I read/speak/write fluently: I can speak Portuguese, English, and some Spanish.

Places I’d like to visit: When it comes to traveling, I have a vast bucket list. I want to go to Mexico to learn more about the Mayan and Aztec civilizations, and to Peru to learn about the Inca Empire. For a similar reason, I’d like to visit the Amazon region in Brazil to learn more about native people and their culture (and, of course, to enjoy the beautiful landscapes). But I’d travel all around the world if I had enough time and money.

Fun fact about me: I’m a very talkative person, but at the same time, I am a little bit shy. Does it sound incoherent? But it’s true, so I like to tell jokes to break the ice.

We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know @AlexandreCampbell . Say hi or ask him a question below as he has a lot to share about Google Maps and Connect.
