Here are some of the pictures I recently captured in Burney Falls loop hike. This is my 5th trip to this falls, generally end up visiting here when I make trips to surrounding attractions like Lake Shasta, Mt Shasta, Lassen National Park etc. Falls is around 65 Miles off of Hwy I5 from Redding CA. It is always great to come back and visit this falls. There are couple of trails near the falls.
-
Loop Trail (1+ Miles round trip)
-
Creek Trail (currently closed due to a tree fall, which you will see in one of the pictures below)
Hikers on Trail
Entry to the falls is $10. Due to Covid, it is self registration now, there is no guard at the entrance to collect the fees. There is plenty of parking available. Restrooms were open too.
Loop hike trail starts along the creek.
On the way to the falls, we came across a vista point from which we can view the Burney mountain. Interestingly snow on this mountain once melted travels through underground channels, this is the main source of water to falls. Please refer to the picture below "Hidden Source Beyond the falls’.
You can see several fallen trees along the trail, here is one of them!
Here is another one, this must have fallen relatively recently, because of this, creek trail is closed at this point onwards.
More fallen trees in to the creek.
Here is a wooden bridge, crossing this takes you to the other side of the loop trail.
View of the falls from the top. Trail takes you to the top of the falls, eventually to another bridge.
Here is another bridge on the trail, which is upstream of the falls. Crossing this completes the loop trail.
Another shot of the trail.
Here is some information on Ponderosa Pine Forest.
Here is an interesting fact about the source of water to the falls. Can you believe over 100 Million gallons of water flows over Burney falls each day!
