Mawlid Month In Berau

The month of Mawlid for Muslims is a month that is celebrated with joy and excitement, because in this month the prophet Muhammad SAW was born and to this day his birth is celebrated by his followers from all corners of the world.

In Berau, festive celebrations are carried out in various ways, one is that schools ranging from early childhood education to high school level hold activities to commemorate the Prophet’s Birthday.

In this activity not only students and teachers are involved but parents of students are also involved for the success of the event.

This year’s Maulid Nabi activity is very lively and a little different for me who just lived in the city of Berau. Usually the celebrate of the Prophet’s Birthday is identical with the distribution of boiled eggs that are hung with bamboo pieces that have been decorated with colorful paper and distributed to children.

What is different and unique in Berau is the special dish which is named Puncak Rasul .

Puncak Rasul is a dish of food that made from stiky rice that has been cooked with coconut milk and given 3 colors, white, red and yellow.

And at the top will be given an omelette cooked without oil and salt or boiled egg. And given a coconut jam.

Coconut jam is made from grated half old coconut elongated and cooked with brown sugar, cooked without water until the brown sugar and coconut blend together. In Indonesia we call coconut jam with Inti/unti kelapa.

The presentation of Puncak Rasul is after the sticky rice is cut into pieces, added with coconut jam as a complement, and this tastes amazingly delicious. These colors have a philosophical meaning and this is a traditional traditions handed down from the indigenous indigenous people of the Berau tribe.

.The white color symbolizes the community.

.The red color symbolizes security/protection in the Berau area and .The yellow color symbolizes the king (kingdom),because Berau was a royal territory before turning into a district (Wait for my article about the kingdom).

The egg that will be placed at the top symbolizes the Prophet Muhammad SAW. The sticky rice that has been colored and The ripe ones will be united and shaped in such a way, then at the top they are given an omelette or boiled egg.

Broadly speaking, Puncak Rasul is made and interpreted for harmony between the people of the Berau region, especially with the leaders and protectors of the community, and still upholds the exemplary values of the teachings of the community. Prophet Muhammad SAW.

The students, teachers and parents were very enthusiastic and happy to do these activities. It can be seen from the enthusiasm of the students who have been sitting in the middle of the school field since the morning waiting for the event to start.

Parents and teachers help each other prepare things related to continuity of the event. Oh yes, in this Prophet’s Birthday activity each class brings each Puncak Rasul and Bunga Serai(lemongrass flower).

.Bunga Serai here is an arrangement of boiled eggs that have been tied to small bamboo sticks decorated with colorful paper and then plugged into banana stems also has been wrapped in colorful paper to beautify its appearance.

After The main event is listening to lectures from religious leaders and reading prayers, two special dishes that can only be found in the month of Mawlid will later be distributed to all who follow the celebration.

And all students, both Muslim and non-Muslim, all participate in celebrating and participate in harmony.Love this moments so much :kissing_heart:

I am very happy to be able to participate in religious events combined with customs from Berau.

I am sure that in other regions or even in other countries, the celebration of the Prophet’s Birthday is also as lively as in the city of Berau.

Ohh… Dear @AnikSetyawati ,

This is really a detailed article on the Birthday Celebrations of Prophet Muhammad Saw, especially in Berau!

Highly appreciate your efforts and dedication…

A very well conceived, written and presented post.

Congratulations.

A lot of information about:

Puncak Rasul in the colours, coconut Jam (first time in hearing this), Bunga Serai… Etc… Interesting…

“… And all students, both Muslim and non-Muslim, all participate in celebrating and participate in harmony…”

That is very heart touching… I love HARMONY always… Great!

Yes, even in India, there are celebrations for the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW - But not to this large scale.

And lastly, I don’t think your beautiful article does not contain any point which needs a ‘disclaimer’ - in fact, you have gifted us a lot of valuable information - thank you again.

With humble Regards
