Masjid Maji Sahiba, Retghat Chauraha, Opposite Gauhar Mahal, Bhopal.
This beautiful mosque is situated at the bank of upper lake close to the Bhoj Setu, Retghat chauraha. It was built by Mamola Maji Sahiba in 1761 AD after embracing the Islam, who remain the factual ruler of Bhopal till her death in 1795 AD. She was the wife of Nawab Yaar Mohammed Khan.
Main prayer hall is having a plain roof supported by octagonal stone pillars having square bases and decorated stone pillar capitals. All the sides are having the stone brackets. Afterward this mosque was accorded the rank of Jama Masjid, before the construction of Jama Masjid. Its architecture is very elegant and ancient stone structural glimpse is significant. Now visitors may notice the later addition to the main prayer hall.
Friday Prayer is held at 01:05 PM, it’s a very popular mosque and offers the panoramic views of upper lake and other heritage like Gohar Mahal etc. It’s a heritage walk. Some time used to attend the prayers in this mosque and I get joy and peace by coming here. Washrooms are available and visitors may have refreshment in the surrounding restaurants like in Gohar Mahal. It can be accessed by wheel chair.
It offers the panoramic view of Upper Lake and Sunset view too. Everyone can visit this Mosque except Prayer times.
