Hello Local Guides, Greetings from Swat Pakistan, it’s me again with a small effort to showcasing a beautiful place of Swat valley " Marghuzar."
Swat is a beautiful valley situated in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. An outstanding place famous for its natural beauty and known as “A Part Of Heaven On Earth”.
Today I am going to share something about a fantastic and historical hill station of Swat, Called Marghuzar and White Place built by the then Ruler of Swat known as “Wali-e-Swat.”
Marghuzar is one of the hill stations in Swat valley held between the snow-capped mountains including Elum Ghar in winter, it is green woodlands and one can enjoy cool stream water (mineral springs) in summers.
Marghuzar is a "Pashto ‘’ word that means "Greenland’'. It is well known for two things, first for its historical White Palace constructed with white marbles used in Taj Mahal located in Agra city of India, and second for its walnut cultivation.
Marghuzar is located at a distance of 20 kilometers from Saidu Sharif Airport with a height of 7136 meters from sea level.
The road of Marghuzar is all built, well maintained, and clean. There is one route from Mingora city’s downtown through Islampur road.
If you are a historical places lover then Marghuzar is the right place for you but if you also love nature and you like hiking, camping, you want to spend your quality time in pure nature, don’t worry you are still in the right direction to get the peace of soul and mind in the high cliffs, cold springs, and relaxing environment.
White Palace is located in the lap of mount Elum. which is the main tourist attraction in Marghuzar. It was built by the Wali of Swat (king of swat) in victorian style and it is said to be the first victorian styled building in the mumlikat e khudadad Yusufzai state of Swat. White Palace was honored by the royal highness Queen Elizabeth II in 1961.
It is lush green in the summer, and if you are visiting it in summer, you can get the best spots for picnics here below the shade of trees and the noise of spring water as background music. I love Marghuzar more in summer when after sunset the weather is completely different from other regions in the valley. You will feel the coldness of winter during summer. Believe me, the time spent here will be incredibly amazing.
There is a very huge 200 years old Chinar tree that can provide shade in the sweltering summer which also serves as a symbol of Marghuzar as a tourist attraction. There are many shops of handicrafts and hand-made rich cultured things around the said tree, (which is a small replica of the years-old heritage of Swat Valley) Islampur handmade shawls which are the local Yusufzai tribe traditional wears of snowy winter are also available here.
If you are in Marghuzar you can buy many traditional souvenirs from the shops on the street, normally they have souvenirs like Pashmina Shawls (Price 30 US$ to 60 US$), Hand-made Wooden Toys , Ladies Purses with Embroidery (Price 10US$ to 20 US$) and other gift for your friends and family.
Marghuzar is a place that is worth visiting if you are in Swat Valley, it will introduce you to the true and beautiful culture of the valley and its people.
And at the end I’m so thankful to my mentors @KashifMisidia and @Muhammad_Usman for so much help and guidance on Connect.
