Hi everyone! I’d like to invite you to join me as we explore Makoko - a vibrant slum and fishing community in Yaba, Lagos - Nigeria. We’ve had successful meetups that focused on the urban areas, but this time, we’d be taking the Maps to the rural under-represented community. The aim is to capture the bustling life of the community and update information on the Maps. There are notable sights that will be captured including the floating houses on water, fishing traditions and the culture of this community. We’d be capturing some of these notable features in Street View to add to the Maps. We’d also visit the Community Leader’s palace to pay homage. It promises to be fun. Travel advisory: Please attend the Meetup with casual (preferably black) shoes e.g. sneakers and casual clothing for the purpose of the walk. To leverage weather conditions, the walk will start early and end early. Meeting point is Meristem Registrars, Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba. From there, we’d head into the community. I look forward to seeing you all.
@Mayford I am aware that the community has parts, one on land and the other on water. Are we exploring other? Are we going to board a boat. Are there any cost involved?
Hi @MrFreez , thanks for highlighting this. We won’t be taking to the waters. Our goal is mainly to capture and document the fishing tradition in pictures as well as the environment and update on any missing points or landmarks within the community. We are free to capture the waters and land, but we won’t be riding in the same waters.
