I have google maps set as one of my default tabs that automatically opens in Chrome as my home page on my laptop. when I open the tab, it always defaults to my old home area, which is 200 miles from where I now live. How can I default to my current address area (which is my “home” address in maps?
Hello @Foxpat0913
You have to allow the browser (& in turn Maps) to access your location.
In the absence of that, Maps will show the default or previously known location.
The settings menu will be different depending upon the OS.
In Windows, you can do that through “Settings”, “Privacy”, “Locations” & then alter the setting at “Allow access to location on this device”.
Trust you are on-line & are not using any VPN service to alter the region of the IP address.
PS. There is another possibility. You may have set your earlier home’s “pin location” as your default web page.
Either you can correct the pin or set maps.google.com as your home page without any further qualifiers.
Then once the home page loads along with the location access, the region around you will open in that.
Hi @Foxpat0913
To change your “home” address on maps
Here are the following steps.
For Browser-
- First go to “your places” .
2 Click on labelled and then you’ll see “Home” - At the extreme right you’ll see × sign, click on it and your old address will be gone and add the current one.
For android app- - First go to “Saved” at the bottom(latest version)
- Then you’ll find lists, labelled, reservation etc. Click on labelled.
- Then you’ll find home and work, at the extreme right, there must be three dots.
- Click on it and “edit home”.
I hope this will help you bro.
Hello @AnshukMitra
Appreciate your reply.
However, the “home” marker in the maps has no connection with the default behavior.
Maps will always show the current region as soon as the location service become accessible.
That’s a useful feature as while travelling, we can explore the current region quickly.
Hi @Foxpat0913
Your position is stored in the url being kept in your default tabs to be opened. You need to renew it to reflect your new home. Add a new default tab showing your current location and remove the old one.
Cheers
