Many photos disappear after a few days

Hello everyone,

my name is Chiara and I’m a Google Local Guides since June 2017.

From the beginning since I’m a Google Local Guide I have this problem:

Each time when I upload photos of places half of these uploaded photos disappear after a few days.

For example: I upload 6 photos of a supermarket, after a few days there are only 3 photos on this supermarket.
This varies for each place, depending on how many photos I’ve uploaded.
But all the photos are still displaying on ,My contributions".

I’ve experienced an uncomfortable situation in this week:
I uploaded 60 photos about a shopping centre in Hamburg, Germany on Tuesday the 19th of February 2019. The shopping centre is called: ,Phoenix-Center Hamburg".
Ca. 50 photos are uploaded well and was displayed on this shopping centre in Google Maps.
Today I looked at the Phoenix-Center Hamburg again and I found only one (leftover) photo. :scream:
On ,My contributions" are still all the photos.

This are three of my pictures that I uploaded. All of them except one are gone.

This is the Google Maps link of Phoenix-Center Hamburg:

I hope that anyone could help me.

I wish you a nice day! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @ChiaraMariaC

checking your contributions, I can see that:

57 of your photos are publicly visible. The Mall have 2802 photos, so probably several of them are not shown.

Many of your photos, not only on the mall, seem to be loaded twice, and several of them are “near duplicate” photos, that does not give any help on the information in Google Maps. I suggest you to check carefully the contributions under your profile, and to remove them by yourself, avoiding an automatic removal

Hello @MoniDi and @PoliMC,

hi and thank you very much for your answer @ErmesT . :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for the important hint Ermes. I removed my duplicates and near duplicate photos. I will not upload near duplicates and duplicate photos again. I will remember it for the future. :+1:t2:

I think this is a bit strange that every Google Maps-user can see a different amount of photos of the places.
This case with the Phoenix-Center Hamburg is an example, but something like that has happened to me very often. To be precise something like that happens from the beginning since I’m a Google Local Guide. (I’m started at June 2017.) :pensive:
I would like to explain two more different cases:

  • I uploaded 40 photos of a event room in Hamburg on Google Maps. 12 photos are not arrived to Google Maps.
  • I uploaded 6 photos of flowers of a park in Hamburg on Google Maps. All of this 6 photos were uploaded on this park. I found only one photo after one week.
All photos are always displaying on: ,My contributions".

I think that many photos will not be uploaded and some photos disappear after a few days because there is a long lasting bug in the Google servers. :worried:

I wish you a nice day.

Best regards from Germany.

Hi @ChiaraMariaC

Good to know that you cleaned up a bit. When we upload photos on Google Maps, the question that we should have in mind is “is this photo giving to the user some more information, or feeling”? Adding several photos of the same subject is what I call “near duplicate”.

Our purpose is to improve the information related to the business.

To check how many photos are loaded and publicly visible, you should check your profile in anonymous mode.

Sometimes the photos are loaded but, like on your mall, due to the large amount, not all the photos are shown.

I have a similar situation. There are 9 pictures I uploaded (and are in my contributions) for a ranger station, 2 of which are not shown. They are both of Deer. The best one is not showing. The location has a total of 29 pictures showing, 7 from me.

Perhaps I did not apply them to the location properly but one has 184 views and the other 148. The one that is showing for the location has 12,400 views. So something seems to have happened to the 2 that are not showing.

Should I create a new question about my situation? I have avoided providing all the details here since I probably should create a new question.
