Many listings on the same location - how to handle it?

Hello!

I need an advice.

We all know that when we marked some listing as Closed it keeps existing.

But what is the best solution for a place, where some cafes or restaurants exist for 1 year, for example, and after that they close? And new owner create a new cafe on the same location, later?

It is real - next to the place where I work there was:

1. Bulgarian Burger place

after 1-2 years -

2. Italian pizza place - Re Di Roma - https://goo.gl/maps/KCRh9ZiRc1WqneZHA

later, 1 year about -

3 - German kitchen - Plovdiv Curry Wurst - https://goo.gl/maps/JYoQ1kt8XCHb7cv66

and nowadays

4 - Крехко щастие - Bulgarian kitchen - https://goo.gl/maps/BDnAAgMoFXe5NtYD6

A. Do I need to change the place each time it changes - name, pictures, info, etc … or

B. to create a new place each time on the same location?

Which option is better? Please, advice me.

Thank you.

Hi @BorislavA thank you for reaching out. Whenever a an existing business closes we to report it as permanently closed by using the suggest an edit feature. To learn more how to do that see this post on How to identify and report fraud on Google Maps. When another owner takes over and the name of the business changes, you do not need to change names on the same business and upload new photos for the business, remember that the reviews, questions and photos from the old business will still be visible on the new business, so to avoid all this you have to create or add it as a new location and start from scratch with zero review, zero photo and the rest.

When you have too many business clustered on the same location for example a single building, you do not have to move them around to create space as long as they appear exactly where the actual existing business is located on the map, Google Maps display business names based on their ratings and history of existence on search or when browsing. You do not have to worry about that other than what we mentioned above. Thank you.

Hi @BorislavA ,

Good question! Well, if there’s another listing for the same place, what you can do is Suggest edit to flag it for removal. After this step is done, please choose Reason for removal and then select Duplicate of another place from the drop-down menu. This is how you can suggest to the Google Maps team to merge both places into a single point of interest.

Please note that usually, owners who have taken over a place that already exists on the Map should contact the Google My Business team for assistance.

Please let me know if you have questions about what I shared above.

Dear @KlaudiyaG

I am afraid that your instructions are incorrect.

When a business closes and the new business that occupies the same venue and creates its own list, the old business should be marked as “permanently closed”.

Merging is incorrect, because we are talking about different businesses. If the OP already did so, it will most likely results in a Not Applied, but also potentially damage his trust score for making an invalid edit suggestion.

If I misunderstood, please explain. Thank you.

Warm regards,

JeroenM

Hello @JeroenM and @BorislavA ,

Since the answer that @Raphael-Mahumane gave is the correct one, I will select it as a solution. Sorry for the missunderstanding. :slightly_smiling_face:
