Manubhan Ki Tekri, Bhopal, MP, India

This beautiful hill is known as Manuabhan Ki Tekri which is a famous tourist destination. Manuabhan was a jester in the court of Emperor Bhoj and used to entertain him by making strange postures and wearing different disguises. Later, he left this profession and devoted himself to religious work
and came to be known as Mantugacharya. The hill was named after him. With time his name changed to Manuabhan and the tekri offers a panoramic view of the city.

The hill came to be called Manuabhan Ki Tekri. Situated at an altitude of 1300 feet above sea level.

About 150 years ago, Nawab Qudsia Begum Ist lady ruler of Bhopal carried out excavations on the hill, in which an idol of Lord Mahavir was found. The idol has been installed in the Shwetambar Jain temple in the Chowk area close to Jama Masjid. There are footprints of the idol on the tekri temple. Dwelling saints were finding a refuge in seven caves.

A few years ago, His Excellency the Governor of Madhya Pradesh renamed it Mahavir Giri. A good Road has been constructed to reach the hill and a ropeway has been arranged. Members of the Shvetambara Jain community regard it as a centre of pilgrimage.

It’s a very popular tourists attraction for picturesque panoramic views of the city and upper Lake. Mostly visitors enjoy the rope way cable car and at peak every one loves the scenic views of surroundings.
