Life Mantra
Mantras for Improving Google Maps
I have found it very helpful to use these three quality mantras when viewing/ editing Google Maps:
-
Right the wrongs
-
Better the rights
-
Spot the new and insert in Google maps
Understanding the Mantras
Examples of “right the wrongs” would be:
- Correcting location coordinates
- Completing an incomplete address of a business/ cafe etc
- Correcting a mistake in the wording of the address
Examples of "better the rights" would be:
- to improve the context. So, if a wine shop both sells and serves wines we can spell that out.
- If a mall has multiple parking garages we can point out which garage is closer to the multiplex and which one is closer to the supermarket within the mall- that would help customers going for the one or the other.
Examples of “spot the new and add/modify” would be adding/ deleting landmarks like restaurants, shops and services. Or adding a recently completed flyover or metro rail station.
Writing / Reviewing Connect Posts
When writing or reviewing Connect Posts, i have found it helpful to keep in mind this 4-point check list:
- The Hook
- Loose or Missing Bricks
- Connecting the Dots
- Icing on the Cake
Word sense Disambiguation
The Hook
The Hook is used as a metaphor here, meant to catch the attention of the person surfing the posts on Connect and entice him or her to read your full post.
This is achieved by two means:
- Give a catchy Title to your post
- Put up a mesmerizing cover photo
I get a lot of ideas for “catchy” titles by googling for quotes or phrases or idioms on the topic on which i’m writing. For example, whether i chose a topic/ sub-topic on Travel, or Photography, or Food & Drink, I google for these and get suggestions from Google. I find them very helpful.
To get mesmerizing photos, i try to take photos of people and monuments from different angles and heights and apply appropriate filters to give a warm or cold look to the subject of the picture as appropriate to the context.
Loose/ Missing Bricks:
If your story post is about a city, question to ask is, does it contain all the important attractions of the place. If for example, you are describing Paris, have you talked about Eiffel Tower or Versailles or Montmartre and given some fun facts about these attractions? Have you inserted pictures from interesting angles of these attractions?
Connecting the Dots
If two different attractions of a city share a common history say, a common architecture or king , have you highlighted this in your write up? If you see a particular region produces superlative goods or services, are they linked to their geography or history and can you connect these dots? Because that would pep up the post and keep the reader glued to it.
Icing on the Cake
Can you finish your post with one or more interesting anecdotes about the city (of which you have described different attractions). Aim to surprise the reader. That would make the ending more memorable.
Thanks for reading! I would be grateful for your comments/ feedback
