About twenty five years ago I saw a picture of Mankiala Stupa somewhere but till today I have passed GT Road around Mankiala many times but I could not go to Mankiala Stupa.Coincidentally this time I had some spare time and I was stayed only 15-20 km drive from Mankiala Stupa in Islamabad, so I took this opportunity to visit Mankiala Stupa. I decided to visit Mankiala Stupa.
When I got there, I was surprised to see the size of the stupa. After seeing this stupa, I only feel peace and love.I was watching with interest when a local gentallman who seemed to be well-educated came and started talking to me in English. When I asked him, “Sir, how are you in urdu language?”
He said,Oh you are not a foreigner sorry “I was misunderstand.” That you are a foreigner then he told me a lot about his childhood
when he and his friends were used to play on this stupa and climb on top of it while playing and also showed pictures of him from above and also told me I can go upstairs too but I don’t think I should go upstairs.
In 1830, General Ventura made a 73-foot-deep hole in the top of the stupa. A box containing gold was found at a depth of about 10 feet. Then gold boxes of 46, 45 and 73 feet were found.these artifacts can be seen in british museum.
