Manikarnika Cremation Ground &Hindu Beliefs

Hinduism is an ancient religion. In this religion, cremation after death has social, religious and cultural recognition. This is an important ritual which is performed with full customs and rituals. It is believed that through this the soul gets purified and liberated. And the body merges into the five elements i.e. earth, water, fire, air and sky.

Manikarnika, a cremation ground, is located on the banks of the river Ganges in Kashi. According to Hindu beliefs, cremation here liberates a person from the cycle of life and death and leads to salvation. Therefore, this ghat is also called holy and Mokshadayini. Death in Kashi is considered auspicious. People from all over India come to live in Kashi in their old age. I spent some moments amidst the burning pyres which were quite disturbing.
