Mangroves in Puerto Hondo

Puerto Hondo is located in the Puerto Hondo enclosure, km 17.5 from the road to the coast, near the Cerro Blanco Protective Forest. This recreational area is also a protected area of the Ecuadorian coast.

In January commonly rains in Guayaquil and that Saturday was no exception, no matter what, we visited Puerto Hondo, we arrived at the Puerto Hondo enclosure and asked about the recreational area, we were told that it was a little farther forward, at the end of the enclosure. We arrived and there was a security guard who warned us that the entrance to the public is at 10:00 in the morning, then we waited a few minutes while we were walking around.

We were the first to enter the recreational area and we noticed that there were canoes to tour the mangrove swamps, we also observed that there were red crabs, iguanas and herons. We took some pictures of the surroundings and rested for a while. The rain ended and several people entered the recreational area to enjoy the day.

It was a nice experience, I recommend the visit for those who enjoy natural recreational areas, the entrance is costless. I suggest you attend early so you can take the tables and chairs you find available.
