The MandarGiri Digamber Jain Temple is located only 30 kilometers from Neelmangala on the outskirts of Bengaluru yet is so tranquil and serene. There is a Jain temple at the bottom and also at the top of the hill and the steps are directly carved into the huge rock.
We started quite early in the morning to enjoy the birds chirping and more importantly to avoid the traffic and also avoided going there on a weekend since it could be a bit crowded. The Temple at the foothills has a uniquely shaped canopy like a bell that is decorated with colorful peacock feathers and there is also a statue of Gomateshwara. The surrounding nature is untouched and the place is clean. The temple opens at 8 am and the place is very well maintained. It is a perfect place for relaxing the mind.
The 350 odd steps take about 15-20 minutes to climb and the view from the top of the hill is just amazing. Climbing this hill is a unique experience due to the calm and beautiful natural surroundings but the top of the hill also is a calm and quiet place. Just make sure you eat something energetic like a Banana or carry an energy drink as there is no shop close-by except a small tea and snacks stall.
The beautiful lake becomes visible only after reaching the top and you must climb down and take the mud road round the hill that leads to the lake. It is a nice walk to the lake while enjoying the delightful views of huge boulders on the way. Note that the temple on the hilltop is locked after 4 pm and it is advisable to not ascend the hill when itтАЩs time for the sunset.
Have you been to a hilltop temple or picnic place with beautiful views recently? IтАЩd be interested in knowing your experiences.
Until thenтАж Happy Guiding ?
Accessibility Features
Being a hilltop temple in a remote place it would not be correct to expect any accessibility features, though the temple at the foot of the hills has comfortable accessible parking and the access path to the temple is well-paved and leveled to ease the entry for a wheelchair.
